2014 Giant TCR SLR Build (Updated Page 3)
Moderators: MrCurrieinahurry, maxim809, Moderator Team
New aluminum build coming up that's finally not a CAAD10
Most, if not all, of the parts from this build will come from parts I have laying around or purchased used to keep the costs down.
2014 Giant TCR SLR stripped raw
Since it's weight weenies, here are some weights.
Giant TCR SLR Frame: 1075g
Giant Overdrive Fork: 459g slammed but still porky
Headset + Slamthatstem bearing cover: 59g
Seatpost: 243g
Seatpost clamp: 26g
FSA 1 piece compression plug top cap: 40g
Everything except the frame is a little heavier than expected, but I'll still try my best to keep the weight down on the build.

Could definitely save a few grams with updated pedals!
Is it clearcoated or anything? Are you concerned at all about corrosion of the raw frame?
Looks like a very cool project -- looking forward to seeing the full build.

Yes, I have a lighter set of pedals on my other bike, but the cost per gram ratio to pick up a set of Dura ace pedals for this bike is not worth it.

No clear coat or anything like that. I have two other raw aluminum bikes that have been stripped for a long time without any issues.

Don't need Dura Ace pedals, the carbon Ultegra pedals are only 4g or so heavier (and lighter than the alloy DA pedals)...
Would a fork from a TCR advanced SL fit? Could save some more weight there too, if you can find one.

I write the weightweenies blog, hope you like it

Any paint stripper for metals will do that job, i.e. Jasco or Aircraft paint stripper. It's sometimes tough to not scratch the metal when scrapping the paint off, so the frame can later be cleaned up with steel wool to make it shine.

I am pretty sure the advanced SL has a overdrive 2 fork which is 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 taper.
A lot of other bikes have a 1 1/8 to 1 1/4 fork, so it wont be too difficult to find a new fork if I go that direction.

If you want to see 'meh' content of me and my bike you can follow my life in pictures here!'Tape was made to wrap your GF's gifts, NOT hold a freakin tire on.'
Definitely did not expect to pick these up, but got a deal I couldn't pass up.

Sneak peak of the build. Its almost done!
Currently sitting at 6932g without bar tape or bottle cages.
I'm definitely happy with how it came out and will get up higher quality pictures once it is complete.
