Cannondale six budget bike.

Hi I have just brought a Cannondale six carbon for £300
Pervious bikes are ibble winter and Paris Loire ALU carbon was nice but cracked headtube.

Sadly its the 2009 model so a bit over weight.

Weight wise I'm guessing mid 8kg.
Its 105 except for FSA grossamer chainset and dura ace wh7700 wheels.
What changes would improve it?
I'm thinking of forks? But which ones fit?!
Wheels are 1600gms so not first thing to change.
Paint is really thick looking a the several chips on the chainstays so could strip it but I personally like the Cannondale graphics.
SI crankset is on the wishlist too.

Hi mate, I have the same bike but a 2010 model, paid a little more than you did though.

I swapped off the 105 for 6800 ultegra using a converter for the bottom bracket but think I should have swapped on SRAM kit as its lighter for the same money
I fitted CERO AR30 wheels at £380 they are claimed 1399g
a hylix seatpost £30 220g (I need to shorten it so can save a little more weight there)
and a cheap carbon saddle £15 from ebay
deda stem which I'll swap out and the same with a fizik bar

I also was looking at replacing the front fork (I think its 380 ish grams) on mine and stripping the paint but wasn't sure about the best way to do it, biggest improvement for me was swapping from the old 105 kit to ultegra and the wheels as I improved shifting and reduced most weight there.

Really interested to see what people think for dropping weight or alternative front forks and what you do to your bike

Those wheels certainly look good. Nice and light.
I think I will look out for a pair s/h in spring if I don't get on with wh7700. I had rs10 on last bike so these should be better.

I've got one of these as well. Mine is also a 2009. The fork on mine was 760g originally, as it was the lowest end carbon six they made.

Over the course of a few years, I have replaced every piece of the bike besides the frame.

My fork was a 1/8" straight steerer, so I grabbed a full carbon synapese fork on ebay for ~$50 that is around 400g.

Is the fork not tapered on this model?
So a standard synapse fork will fit?
I will look at getting one once I have tried it as is.
What other changes have you made?
SI chainset?
Cheers james

The fork was not tapered on mine. My frame also has a threaded bb, while others have BB30. I would check your own frame to confirm. If it is non-tapered, there are tons of forks available that work. The synapse happened to be extremely inexpensive and also has cannondale logos that match the color of the frame graphics.

Since I don't have BB30, I went with a standard BSA Sram Red crank, Force derailleurs and Rival shifters/brakes. KCNC seatpost and Controltech stem.

Think mine is bb30 as it has a FSA grossamer chainset.
Looks larger than bb of old.
Have a pair of forks on watch.
Will stick to 105 till I am sure i want to change.

Thats interesting @zwingz I might have to dismantle mine to check the weight of the front fork mines the BB30 frame, didn't realise that they put different ones on them might be a good opportunity to lose some weight

Let me know how you get on.
Like how easy it is to do and how heavy the fork is?!
Hope to get out Sunday afternoon for hour or so!

The higher end frames had bb30 and a full carbon fork that was pretty light if I am remembering correctly. Mine, being one of the lower end frames, had an aluminum steerer that is incredibly heavy, and a BSA bottom bracket. I think the weight of the frames might be different as well, as my frame is somewhere around 1500g for a 56cm

2009 model (red graphics) is heavier than the 2010 model black graphics.
The 2010 bike is bike of the year.
Shaved 100gms from frame and 300gms from the forks
iirc.
I'm not in a rush for a super light bike. Just a quality carbon bike for alloy money!

Went out for ride around the neighbourhood.
Rode very stiffly and a firm ride which was a bit of a shock to system.
Once I had acclimatized the feeling of riding fast again was great. Climbs really well. The smaller gradients didn't register as they used too on my old alloy bike and out of saddle steep climbs were really spirited.
Had run a marathon the day before so legs a bit tired!!!

I had two of them. They are not too bad, they could work for you. I just thought they sagged/got flexy compared to new, maybe it's part of how they work.
