Not sure where the open mold chatter started, but his particular frame originated from their factory in Italy, not Taiwan/China.

Still, I'd be surprised to see De Rosa putting their name on an open mold frame, or at least not one that they didn't have exclusive rights to, but then it wouldn't be "open" any more would it. Looking forward to seeing this one all built up regardless.
Derosa R838 is 100% "open mold" . you can buy it as "ribble" as well.

I can be wrong, and have plenty of examples for that

What Seedster said. Protos is not an open mold frame. It is an original design and the only carbon De Rosa frame that is 100% made in Italy. Maybe the new SK is also made in Italy but I am not sure.

I don't think that made in Italy is a case with SK. Surely they, De Rosa, would be announcing this fact wherever it is possible.

They had never 'announced' that Protos was made in Italy either, but it was.

There is no open mould for the Protos. Most of the lower level De Rosas are from Asia. The SK Pininfarina actually is as well. The Protos was and is true made in Italy.
This colour scheme is fantastic. Please no Time components on this one.

It is the head tube design that made me think that it was possibly an open mold frame may not though. It matter's little to me where a frame is made so long as it is done properly.
What is wrong with Time components. Of course an all italian bike is obvious thing to do.

I actually like Time frames a lot and have a Time ZXRS. The components, however, are all pretty fugly in my opinion...
Time components look fine, they just do not belong to an italian tricolore painted frame IMO.

The handlebar I was considering using was really understated, but I get the sentiment

Head tube design? Dude, look at the size of the downtube where it meets the BB. It's twice the size of any other bike. There is nothing out there remotely like a Protos - and if there was you would recognise it instantly!
