I shipped my bike off 4 days ago for clear coat as mentioned earlier. Before sending it, I made mock logos. Of course they will be black logos with transparent background. Also, I am putting my wife's name on the top tube and it will be under the clear coat. With her name now on the frame, she must be committed to the bike or I can't resell it. Will she like the WWII Kamikaze flag next to her name??? Probably not, but I think it will look groovy in black on black  So, there will be a total of 3 decals on the bike. I decided to leave the head tube blank.

I got some items from Starbike for the wife's bike. I saved some weight here. Check it out.

15 grams for the Cannondale 30.8 seatclamp :hmm: Oh hell no. That is way too heavy! Plus it is red.

Image

Replaced it with the Tune Würger Skyline 2.0 Seat Clamp. The carbon bands are UD to match the frame

The Cannondale System Integration topcap and expander was not that bad at 16 grams. But, weight can still be saved.

Image

First start with the Extralite Ultrastar 3

Image

Then get a carbon topcap. For this I got the Tune but will be sanding the logo off.

Image

Then throw a nylon M6 countersuck screw on the 2 units and I cut the weight in almost half.

I have been using the Tune Skyline Time Trial skewers on all my bikes. My wife and I need to match, so she gets the same thing. Plus, when we ride together, I will always have the skewer tool. You can't beat 17 grams.......Unless I trim the ends:)

I like the Tune Edelzwicker lockring. I use 2 others on my bikes and they are 3 grams. This one came in a little heavier.

And finally, the 80mm MCFK stem.

Image

Take the ugly ass stickers off and I save 1 gram

So with the 164 gram 36cm S-Works handlebar, the combo weighs 243 grams. I wonder how much weight I can save if this is turned into a barstem combo removing the aluminum faceplate and bolts? If this stem is the right length, I will consider it.

Since the frame will be in a matt finish, I will need to refinish the stem. I do not know why MCFK charges an extra 50 euros for the matt version. I would rather pay less and do it myself. The Ax Lightness Orion brakes are also gloss and I will be refinishing them too. Is sanding with 1500 grit the best way to do it? Or is there an easier way? Thanks.

Ha! The relative price of the kitchen remodel just went WAY up! But you're gonna love it.

I took some 1500 grit sand paper and wet sanded to get some of the gloss shine off. It is kind of hard to see in the photographs, but I decided to post it anyways so I can reference this later on when I want to try this again. So here it is.

With the gloss.

Image

After wet sanding with 1500 grit.

Image

A comparison on the Ax Lightness calipers. The left is still gloss, the right after the wet sanding.

Lookin good! You could hit it with some 2000 grit wet if you still see some scratches.

Just get the highest they have. Might have even 2500. Work your way up the grits and keep dunking the paper in water to keep it clean.

Looks much better sanded, brings out the weave nicely. I was thinking of getting one of those carbon seatpost clamps, have you used that kind before? I just worry about how durable it would be.
