So thought I'd start of a thread for my new Scott Foil 15 (2014 model) 56cm frame.
I have only recently bought it and it is my first road bike, I have ridden fixed gear for a couple of years but doing more and more sportives and also now some Duathlons a road bike is required.
So here it is...
Image
I weighed the bike (basic weigh myself then weigh myself with bike) and it came out at 8.1kg (with bottle cages, no bottles, no lights), this seems like quite a lot for what I thought was a light frameset with light components.
I have made the table below
(NOTE: weights were found online and not actual measured weights as bike is fully assembled, if any are way off please let me know)
Image
Anyway, look forward to being part of the community and if anybody has any advice/criticism of the bike please shout out.

EDIT** Just checked over the spreadsheet and found the formula in the total cell was wrong so not totalling everything, have updated and it shows 8033grams.

Nice bike. What are your plans for the bike, are you looking to drop some weight. ? If so could loose 200g changing the peddals, 100+ g on the saddle, then obviously the wheels. Just depends if you want to go down the WW route, and become addicted to loosing grams. Lol. !!!

I bought for sportive and long rides aswell as competing in duathlons (which allow tt bikes) so would be good to keep weight low. I opted for Di2 so I can easily add clip on bars with satellite shifters without the need to rewire the whole gear shift system.
In terms of weight I don't want to go crazy and speed lots of money (mainly as I don't have any and I accept that out of me and the bike I'm the weakest link) still when I bought the bike thinking it was a 7.5kg bike and weighed it at 8.1kg I was a little disappointed.
I have no changed the tyres for Schwalbe Pro1tubeless tubeless tyres which along with correct quantity of sealant has saved ~150g per wheel getting me to around 7.8kg.
I know pedals would get me a fair saving but as I commute on both this a track bike I don't want to have to get a second pair of shoes or have different pedals on each bike. I understand eggbeaters are light option but they're also pricey! Not sure what saving I can hope to see with mtb spd's.
Anyway if there are any blindingly obvious changes anyone would recommend please do.

There are cheaper items where you could save weight, but not a huge amount. Bottle cages, bar tape, cables, chain. You need to set a budget and weight you'll be happy with, or it gets out of control. !!!

Budget and weight targets sound like a good idea!
Bottle Cages:
I have got some carbon bottle cages on the way from aliexpress, they were cheap and thought if theyre good then its a fair saving.

Skewer:
Might go for some ti QR skewers as these are also cheap from aliexpress and again offer an easy 80g saving.

Cables:
I would like to recable the bike at some point (I bought second hand so want to refresh all consumables at some point), any idea how much the current brake cables, di2 wires ect weigh, the weights iv used are just approximations.

Chain:
I have just replaced chain with a kmc model, not sure how much I could save here but from looking you have to spend ~£100 extra just to save around 10g, I'd like to replace my chain often and therefore wont be getting a superlight one.

Bar tape:
It has lizard skin on it, not sure what I could swap this for to realistically save a significant amount, suggestions welcome.

Saddle:
I have had issues with saddles in past, so being comfortable is paramount. I have got a fizik aliante vs which I like, the bike came with a specialised toupe expert body geometry that although nice and light just wasn't comfortable.

I have Dura Ace DI2, the shifting cables are 44g, and the inner and outer brake cables are 96g. I've got some Jagwire ordered so I should save some weight there.
I would highly recommend a padded Berk saddle, mine came in a little heavy at 100g, got two carbon ones two, 68 and 75g so they do vary.
Skewers are a good cheap idea. Also my Lightweight bar tape was 40g, but from others on here there is lighter. Maybe change your spacers, a few grams to save there to.

What will you be realistically looking to have the new brake cables weighing in at? I have a small nick in one cable outer so will likely be doing this soon too. Is jagwire the lightest?
Wow there is a lot I can save in saddles, are the lightweight ones not just going to be really uncomfortable?
Also as I'm new to this whole road cycling thing I am unsure on the whole saddle bag and tool kit scenario, feels silly going for a lightweight bike then putting a heavy saddle bag with a couple of innertubes I'll likely never use.

Not to sure what I will save on the Jagwire as I've never seen actual weights, maybe 20g. Powercords is the lightest, just not compatable with my Fibular brakes, you also have Alligator I-links and Aican Bungarus. Fair wheel bikes has a list of weights on their website. To be honest the full carbon saddles are very comfy, and a great way to save weight.
I don't use a saddle bag, I put co2 and an inner tube in my Jersey. Looks a lot better to.

@KCookie Well would be good to hear an update on the weights once you've done it, would be interested if you've got a project thread?

Will maybe look at saddles then, is a fair saving over my current fizik.

I don't really like having stuff in my pockets you see, might look at potentially just strapping stuff in a canvas/zip lock bag under the saddle. The saddle bag iv bought weighs 130g and is quite large for aero ect.

Am currently working on saving some weight from my current M520 pedals, so will post an update on these if anyone's interested.

No sorry haven't got a thread, might post once completed. Defiantly have a look at Jure Berks website, he is very easy to deal with, answers emails quickly. Just waiting on two top caps from him. Got delivery of Fibre Lyte chain rings today, now just waiting on a replacement warranty frame.
Changing your pedals will drop a lot of weight.
130g is heavy for a bag, a lot lighter out there. !!!

Indeed, and my wallet is begging for a break, I think maybe a compromise is required haha.
Next plans are internal battery, diy satellite shifters, new brake wires and maybe some tuning (drillium) on brake pads carriers and saddle.

The Jagwire brake cables weighed in at 117g, hopefully there will be some grams to be lost once cut to the right size. !!

Which model of Jagwire is that, really not a fan of the look of the I-link (think it's called that) cable. Just want the lightest classic looking brake cable I can afford.
