2x10 is going to be lighter than a *functioning* 1x10 or 11. You'd need a clutch RD and a bigger rear cassette plus some heavy X sync chainrings. Kevin lives in a relatively hilly area too, so big ringing everything wouldn't be too fun.
I'm really looking forward to this. A guy I ride with has a 9.8 lbs Vial Evo and I couldn't imagine where I'd shed further weight from his bike, especially close to a full pound.

@RyanH - biggest misconception of 1x. You have to tailor it to the riding that you do. You do not need a clutch RD and a bigger cassette and heavy X sync chainrings. I am using a 1 X 10 set up that is lighter than my 2 X 10 set up and I am running lighter cassette, lighter chainrings and standard RD with no issue. I have been running this for 10 years on my MTB's with only a couple of dropped chains (one on a large drop off and one on a jump). I have run in the past this set up on a few road builds as well and again no dropped chains.
All of the stuff you mention is ideal for larger cassettes where you have to deal with much more chain.
Living in a relatively hilly area makes sense to run 2 X 10/11 but again it depends on your riding style.

Everyone thanks for the input! I'm probably going to order both those hubs to try. I have another set of deeper but still super light rims I would like to build. It still looks like the extralite rear is the lightest by far. Anyone know of a lighter rear?
Regarding the 1x situation. It's something that I have really strongly considered in the past. I though about doing something along the lines of a 50 front with a 32 rear Cs. For this bike I'm going to build it up with the full functioning 2x10 with dual control levers but considering my goal I will probably use a front down tube shifter. You have to remember at a certain point small sacrifices have to be made to get a fully rideable 56cm bike under 9lbs. To be honest I've always been a fan of a front DT shifter as the ultimate WW set up. This bike will be all out WW made to be the lightest possible.

Ok so....a few more parts have come in.
I picked up some engage brakes. The calipers are actually very light. 131 grams for calipers and hardware. I'm currently tuning them and my goal is to be around 135 grams complete with pads and holders. I pulled them all apart and started stripping the paint off. I'm going to also throw some of the small parts on my lathe and mill to remove material and save weight. I also just picked up a THM clavicula Classic. I will upgrade to the SE eventually but the price was right on this one for now. Once again this is a slow build.....customer frames and work come first.
Heavy ass pads and holders......
My fibre lyte order will be here soon so a few more parts are trickling in. I'm hoping to start building the frame in the next few weeks.

Wow just wow
Super tuning bikes isn't personally my thing but I'm very excited to see how this turns out.

Did you buy these on ebay?
Thanks guys! I'm not sure about reliability on the hub. I'll report back once I get riding on it.
These are not the brakes that were on eBay although I did see those.

Got the paint stripped off the calipers finally. Got them down to 123 grams from 131. Not too bad for taking some paint off.

My God.. After you stripped the paint off, the Engage is essentially the same as my AX PERSEUS. The only difference is Country of Origin... Far East vs Germany.
I wonder if you can replace the steel spring with AX carbon spring used on their other brakes. Only 2g each.. With a 4.08kg target, every gram counts! Lol
