Yeah the stock 2016 foil stem was kinda pooh pooh but running aftermarket stuff created issues with the bearing cover. Unfortunately the 2012 foil is a 56 so i'll need a short and steep stem instead of the giant "beefsteak".

Definitely underestimated how weird a 95mm -30* stem would look

Any chance of a couple of pics up close of the stem/steerer/top bearing area. For me the only reason I haven't moved from a 2012 foil to this new platform is waiting till I can mount a "normal" stem without all the ugly fairing... I got a pro sprint cockpit that I'd love to retro fit.

I don't have any pics with the normal bearing cover if that's what you're asking for. You can just run the top bearing raw. Your best bet would be figuring out if a top cap from a giant or canyon would work (1.25 steerer). so I guess your sprint stem wouldn't work anyway. IIRC iamcycling was not using the fairing top cap with their normal ritchey cockpits.

needed because of the size up change to 56 vs 54 on the new foil?

Yeah, I got the 56 just b/c it was a good deal and I knew I could make it work. I hope my excel calculations were wrong and I can end up putting my 110mm deda pista on. I just picked up some reynolds aero 72s on slowtwitch which should go perfectly with this bike rather than the white spokes on the aeolus 5's.

Presby, that will definitely affect handling.
Have you thought about getting deeper drop bars and using a standard -17 stem?
Bending your elbows to get an extra few cm is underestimated as well.

I understand the length is borderline twitchy but you'll have to pardon my ignorance on how the actual angle of the stem would negatively impact steering

I cannot understand changing to the old Foil. The new one is so much more interesting.

It was more the length, but the mismatch between frame size, shorter stem and the aggressive position you are seeking to achieve is a just a concern. I cannot see the bike handling in the manner you might ultimately want. But I am arm-chairing this one, so build it up and see how it runs.

Yeah it's definitely not optional. Worst comes to worst I'll swap some drop for some length end up with the same saddle to bar distance, shouldn't be too negative for the fit.

I forgot how much I love white bikes. I'm still tinkering with the fit; my 110mm deda pista is just a touch long to the hoods.
Stronglight TT ring, deep wheels and matching tires to follow.

Thinking of getting a 2016 frame set, I do like the look of the new Team Issue. For now though riding this puppy:-
