Hello,

Some advice would be welcome !

Frame: Burls custom Ti based around cervelo R5 (58cm) geo but a bit lower at the front and seatpost.

Fork: Columbus

Headset/BB: Chris king

Ideas for the build

- Stripped sram force crank with fibrelyte carbon chainring (have)
- Planet x Lightweight brakes (need to purchase)
- 42cm 3t ergonova carbon stealth bars (have)
- 3t black ltd stem (need to purchase)
- 3t doric ltd seatpost (have)

Image

Wheels are an issue - I need to build them.

Thinking either 38mm carbon clincher rims 24/28 built onto novatech hubs with non bladed spokes or 50mm front, 60mm rear rims with the same build. I would use yinshun for these as they were good with the last set I built.

Other options welcomed.

Cheers

Bikes should be suitably created for their intended use.

So, what you going to do with this?

Or is it some kind of Mickey Mouse project?

Wow! That is nice. Check out MACK hubs. They are awesome and can be done in custom colors. The cost for some of their single speed hubs are very reasonable. I love mine.

That frame looks like something I would want to sprint on. If it was mine I would go with the deeper section rims. Did you get standard spacing or 120mm track spacing in the back?

Track spacing.

this is its big brother.

As for use, I tend to ride fast so it would be 90% 45-60 min blasts to work on rolling terrain with hills and the occasional longer ride.

To be fair that is only any good for 10 mile TT on a flat course! I also have a 56 I use on more rolling courses and a selection of rear sprokets. All my fastest TT times are on this, I have no idea why but I cant get anywhere close on my Cervelo P2 with gears and a power meter !

Some advice please...

Going to order the wheels to build this week and am unsure on components.

Thinking 25mm wide aero rims from yinshun bikes as these have proved bombproof for me over the last four years and I dont see the point of super expensive rims on a fixed gear. For around 850g I can have 38mm, 1000g 50mm or 1100g 60mm.

They will be with cx ray spokes and the hubs below.

You think the colour will be ok or should I go with red?

Cheers

Oh man, this thing is sweet!!!

Go with the Mack's all the way. But, if you decide to go in a more budget direction or want to build a spare wheelset, these hubs have been great on my track bike for many, many miles. Great seller and very fast shipping. One of the few places you can get 20h or 24h fixed/fixed track hubs. http://www.bdopcycling.com/Hubs-FGSS.asp

I got the WCS striping on mine like above. I think it was well worth the upgrade price. However, at no extra cost I could have done something a little different and done a one color stripe at a thicker width. I think for your build, you should go with the black hubs. The red lockring and red endcaps will accent your headset and BB cups perfectly. Going with full red hubs will be too much red in my honest opinion. Maybe instead of the WCS stripe, you can get 1 red stripe only to keep the red accent theme on this bike. The green, blue, yellow on my Ti track bike was distracting. You can even ask the guy at MACK to do the "MACK" laser etching logo in red instead of white.

You can maybe go with Sapim Cx Ray Superspokes for the front to save 20 to 30 grams. I am not sure how much you weigh but for me the difference for the front using standard vs Superspokes was not noticeable.

Thanks for all the comments, will definitely think about a spare wheelset in the future. I think just a lick of red on the hubs will look good so will probably go with mack etched in red as well as the red lockrings.

Cheers for the input people.

Update:

Ordered the mack hubs but it's a 12 week wait which is fine by me as im still regaining fitness and dropping weight after illness last year kept my cycling limited.

Here is the drawing of the geometry:

and a bit of tuning on the levers I had kicking around, these are gutted sram force

Can I just sand it back with P600-P1000 and clear coat?

I also have a lovely 3t carbon post I would like to remove all the decals from.

Next job is to decide on the crankset. I can but sram omnium cranks or use an old pair of s900 carbon cranks. What do you think?
