Starting a thread to cover my build of a Trek Madone frame. This will be replacing . The goal is to get the bike lighter, and a bit more "racy".

The donor bike is my 2010 Specialized Roubaix Elite SL2. The only thing left stock on the bike is the frame. I'll be stealing almost everything.

The "new-to-me" frame came from ebay, with some parts on. 58 cm H1 standard paint, minimal graphics. Blacked-out logos. Ugly Trek "chrome" head badge removed (1.1 gram saved :D )

I will update the parts list (removing the question marks) as I go. All weights are in grams.

980 . . Frame (stripped, with der hanger, and all cable stops installed)
33.5 .. Cane Creek headset top (including bearing)
21.8 .. Fork lower bearing

130.8 .Dura Ace integrated rear brake (includes mount bolts)
6.6 . .. Rear brake adjuster/QR
18.7 .. Bontrager Duotap (chainstay integrated) (I don't even know what this is, yet)
450 ... Crankset (drive side) (FSA K Force Light MegaExo 24mm spindle)(50/34)
150 ... Crankset (non drive side) (FSA K Force Light) (when Stages is not used)

It's an integrated speed/cadence sensor that fits into the left chain stay.

Strangely, mine's a little heavier.

Thanks. I'll be updating the thread with pics.

The frame was a lot heavier than I expected, with the 2013 bragging claims of 750g frames. Maybe they were weighing 53 cm bikes.

Trek's claimed weight was for a 54 Madone H1 with the U5 Vapor coat. You didn't specify what size frame you have, but the 7.9 has a standard paint job, which is heavier.

Thanks. I'll add the info to the first post. This is standard paint, H1 head tube, 58cm size.

Looking forward to this one because of the frame size.

Me too. I actually got a deal on Madone H1 60 and that frame will replace mu current Emonda SL 56. I hoped the frame would weight around 900 grams, but I think I will get lucky if it would be just under 1000 grams. Please post photos!

Here's a couple of in-progress pics. The first is the frame. This isn't fully stripped. It has the der hanger, cable sleeves for derailleurs, and the cable guides where the cable outers terminate. For bragging rights, these could be removed, but the frame is useless without them, and there are no lighter-weight alternatives. I guess I could pull the cable sleeves once the cables are in place.

Unhappy donor-bike can be seen awaiting his fate.

The next is the current state of things. I need to find my hanging scale.

The stem placement isn't the end-goal. I'm using that position to set up the cable length, giving me the greatest choices for fitting as I get it on the road.

I'd have probably been well-suited to H2 geometry, but that's not what showed up on eBay. At my age, there's a good chance this will never get slammed. Well.... I'll certainly try it, but probably won't keep it that low.

My Roubaix was as low as I could get it, with a stem that was angled down a little. With this frame (set up as in pic) the bars are about 1cm lower than the bars on the Roubaix. I should have a decent range to work with, with the spacers and stem angle choices.

Progress day. I'm going to get a different stem. This is the one from my Roubaix, and I don't think the angle is going to work for me.

As it sits, we're hovering at the 15lbs mark. From a personal-desire standpoint, I need to come in under UCI limit.

Still waiting for the 7x10 rail clamp for the seatpost.

The best news of the day.... the Stages power meter clears. Barely. About 1.5mm.

Adding a weight pic. I only have hanging scale for pounds, so no kg display. Depending on what bar-tape I switch to, i think I can get under UCI limit.

This is ready-to-ride, with cages and pedals.
