Lapierre Aircode Ultimate 2015 - Race bike
Moderators: MrCurrieinahurry, maxim809, Moderator Team
Hello everyone
I'm an aspiring racer from Indonesia. Currently on a small team sponsored by a famous bike shop in Jakarta.
When asked to decide which bike should i take.. either Xelius 2015 or Aircode Ultimate 2015, i choose aircode because of the colorway (LOL)
Frameset : Lapierre Aircode Ultimate size XS
Stem : 3T ARX Team 8 degree 100mm
Handlebar : 3T Tornova Pro 38cm (When i bought it first it says 40cm c-c on the box.. but i already installed the bar and too late to realize.. but its not a big deal)
Seatpost : 3T Ionic Setback Team Stealth 31.6
Saddle : Astute Skyline VT
Groupset : Shimano 105 5800 53-39 with Ultegra 11-25 cassette
Wheelset : Mavic Ksyrium Elite S 2015 with Mavic Tyres
I'm very sorry if you disappointed.. it's not a weight-weenies build
trying to use components that worth the price
My previous bike was Giant TCR SLR 2014
compared to that, Aircode was notably stable
But i already getting used to it... so not a problem
Thanks

Great looking bike! Is this your first bike with 105 5800? Just wondering what you think about the groupset and how you would compare it to 6800.

I've just put 5800 on my winter bike having come from 6700, the 6700 was pretty worn out with 10k+ miles much of it wet, also sick of snapping mech cables at the shifters. Function wise I notice little difference, rear mech side seems to need slightly more precise cable tension, nothing drastic. Main difference I've noticed, build quality of the 5800 shifter is nowhere near as good as the 6700, the r/h rattles badly, feels and looks cheap by comparison. The 5800 cables exit the shifter differently, hopefully less prone to fraying. Haven't ridden 6800
Interesting stuff...thanks for the insight.

The red looks ordinary in pictures but in the flesh it's stunning.
Best of luck racing yours this year.
Thanks man

I've tried 6800 on last year when i was working at pinarello bike shop for quite a long time. compare 6800 to 5800 i feel quite a bit of differences, especially in the shifter/brifter. Aside from weight, 6800 feels more solid, great finishing and that means better durabilty (even though i hadn't destroy any ), better click feels in the shifter, and i don't know if it just me but it feels a little more accurate in terms of changing gears.
Well.. because i'm broke right now i don't mind using 5800 LOL

for racing i'll use it as is, well maybe change to race tires
but in the future i'll upgrade to ultegra 6800 and maybe a race wheel (carbon tubular)
Thanks for the reply. I just had full 5800 installed on my bike this past Friday (all 5800 aside from 6800 brake calipers, which I already had). Only one ride with it so far, but it was obvious within 30 seconds that 5800 is a tremendous improvement over the Sora group which came with the bike.
I'm planning on getting a whole new bike at some point soon, which will probably be an Ultegra build. I've test-ridden a couple of Ultegra 6800 bikes so far and I felt like the 5800 was very similar. But again, I don't have any "real" experience with 6800, so it's good to know that there are in fact noticeable differences.
