I just bought a Focus Izalco max 0.0, model year 2014. Had my first ride and I have to say it rides awesome! Stiff and light, so it is nice to climb and accelerate with. I am more a fan of custom bikes and my other rides are custom builds. But of course I plan to do some changes from time to time and try to lose some weight as well.

Image

Build list (part-weights from the internet):

Frame: Focus Izalco max (size L) 750g
Fork: Focus 295g
Wheels: DT Swiss RRC 32 DICUT (Set) 1090g
Tires: Schwalbe One tubular 22 (Set) 520g
brakes: THM Fibula 179g
Stem: Fizik Cyrano R1 110mm 133g
handlebar: Fizik Cyrano 00 175g
seatpost: Fizik Cyrano R1 carbon 200g
saddle: Fizik "Airone 00" 139g
rear dérailleur: SRAM Red 145g
front derailleur: SRAM Red 69g
shifters (set): SRAM Red 280g
Crankset: SRAM Red 39-53 609 g
bearing: SRAM Red 105g?
Chain: SRAM Red 242g
Cassette: SRAM Red 11-26 151g
Pedal: Shimano Ultegra 262g (weight)
Bottle Cages: 2x Tune Wasserträger 2.0 total 20g
skewers: Tune 36g set

Cable set / Bolts / Tape unknown yet ;)

Total weight is about 5,65 kg (I have to update with a new weigh feeder)

First custom parts are:
skewers changed, used my old tune (pair) instead of DT swiss which saved me 52g in total.
2x Tune Bottle Cages

What part would you recommend to change for a easy weight lose?
I will go for Garmin Vector pedals some day, so don't say pedals ;).

- Seatpost, Crankset and tires are my first thoughts, wheels are to expensive at the moment..

Cheers
Felix

Just depends on what you want to spend to loose weight, as you said tyres are a good choice, how about a Carbon saddle, could save about 65-70g. Awesome bike btw.

Maybe a super light saddle / seatpost combo (monocoque without bolts..)
Because the Seatpost is a bit "heavy" as well.

What about tuning the SRAM Red parts? Bolts cogs etc..? Is the weight / price ratio okey.
Or will I lose to much durability? I don't want plastic bolts ofcourse, but maybe some al or ti bolts can save some grams and is eyecatcher as well.

The cranks are actually pretty light, but the big ring is really heavy. It's like 150g. Praxis just started making ring sets for this crank. You'd save about 50g.

I saw in another thread where a guy sanded the clear coat and logos off and removed about 30g.

If you look at the bare crank weight, it's about 370 grams. It's hard to do much better than that without spending a ton of cash.

Also look at cable housing, seatpost binder, fd hanger, expander and top cap. Those little parts add up!

I am using a bontrager xxx 330mm seatpost. I really like it, and my scales say it would save you 35g over your current seatpost using the 7x9 bunny ears. Depending on your weight you could try something lighter.

Let's get a photo from the drive side, in your big ring.

hi,
the acros headset tends to come loose. in my experience, you can avoid this by leaving one spacer above the stem when cutting the steerer.

carbonschmiede clamp weighs only 5 gr. and works fine with the focus:

Swap the chainrings for something in the 120g range which will save you 59g. That's one of the cheapest savings available on your build as well as Pedals.
