Looks good. These were the types of bikes we raced on as juniors, Klein Quantum and Cannondale CAAD 3 and 4. A popular mod was to replace the rear brake with a Cane Creek BRS200 to shave some grams.

Deda spada adapter only weighs 139 grams according to my scales. I actually saved grams on a steelie when used the adapter with a 130mm stem (132 grams).

For 26mm bars, you can't beat deda new rhm piegas (bit chunky, 46cm outside-outside is exactly 300 grams) or procraft RR compact 26mm. For classical shape, you can still choose deda 215 or even ritchey wcs classic had a 26mm clamp diametre version back a few years ago. (saw in a local classified.. )

cheers :welcome:

Moving to those bars will add weight overall. A cinelli grammo stem is only 180g as it is made of titanium. Given its shape it is fairly stiff as well.

That last post is simply wrong the ritchey will not save weight but it is a nicer bar. I might get one and pour oven cleaner on it to make it silver. I have tried registering on the tour forum but I can't for some reason so those smolke bars are not going to happen.

A bit more progress
Image
Ti crank bolts fitted saving 20g. Ashima cable casings fitted. Powercordz gear cable fitted but I lacked the blue brake cables so steel ones have been used as a stop gap.

Weight currently 7.1kg. Really want to change the bars to some schmolke. Really can't afford them though at the moment. Still can't register on that german forum or I would have those.

Are you going to run Schmolke bars with a quill stem? - don't carbon bars require stems with clamps specifically designed for the needs of carbon bars to distribute the loads and avoid sharp edges?

Well the clamp on a quill stem is broad and does not have sharp edges. It will distribute the load far better than conventional light stem with a cut out face plate.

Ordered a carbon rear mech cage and pulley wheels to save a few more grams. I could replace the tubs for the 22mm re branded veloflex that I have now. That would save another 50g.

Any suggestions on light bar tape. Oh and I have found some schmolke bars in the u.k.

If the Grammo is anything like my 3TTT Pro Ti stem of the same era the clamp outer edge has a very small radius to the external edges compared to modern faceplate type and would result it a pretty concentrated load point along the clamp line if the bars are being pushed and pulled a lot. similarly there is no guarantee that the quill clamp area is uniformly clamping the bar within the clamp zone. I suspect the single bolt Ti clamps largely load up the bars in the near vicinity of the bolt only.

I am enquiring as I am genuinely interested in running light carbon bars on a quill stem but have been reluctant given the warnings that typically appear on carbon bars about using with carbon-specific stem clamps.

Bother the shop that had the second hand schmolke bar tried for me in a quill stem. It is a compact and there is no way it going through so it is pointless now as the whole point of these bars to to get a compact bar that is light in 26.0mm.

At least I have sorted out the jockey wheels and rear mech cage today.

More slow progress

Ti bolts fitted to the seatpost clamp (from ebay) and Fibrelyte carbon cage and pulleys fitted too. Total weight saved is 25g. Weighed it today and the luggage scales now show 7.07kg.
