My $2k limit WW Project! [BUILD COMPLETE]
Moderators: MrCurrieinahurry, maxim809, Moderator Team
First off, hi! I'm basically new here...
My first WW project!
I gave myself a $2k budget to make the lightest road bike I could for climbing. I scoured Ebay, Pinkbike, Amazon and a few other places trying to find anything that was reasonably light, and not too expensive. Everything has been ordered, and the last parts should all be here within the next 2 weeks.
I actually didn’t find this forum until just about a week ago. I’m looking to try and shave another ~500g off the bike over the summer. There are obvious ways I could do this - more expensive groupset components, Ti bolts etc…
But I’m hoping to try and find weight reduction with minimal $ from here on. I've reached my $2k limit. I’d love to hear any suggestions. I’ve been reading on ‘tuning’ components like Derailleurs and shifters and seat post clamps etc. I come from (years ago) customizing Honda Ruckus scooters - so I’m no stranger to a Dremel and drill
I have weighed every single part as it arrives - or I have the mfg weight for items I don’t have yet (except the chain rings). I haven’t started assembling yet - so some parts are still uncut etc.

FWIW Tufo's generally ride poorly. They are light. I had a set that made so much road noise I was happy when I flatted them so I could throw them away. They are a very light spare to carry.
what kind of road noise?
Im on Pro4 service course clinchers right now and I notice that they make a lot more noise than my last tires. On an alloy wheelset.
Hi all - I've updated the parts list at the top post as some things have changed. I've ditched Shimano for SRAM to lighten it up a bit.
I figure I should start posting some pictures - I've been waiting for the bars to arrive so i can wire this thing up - but I guess there's a few things I can do in the meantime...
Hopefully will cut the forks down today and get the headset, forks and stem together... In the next few days I'll put the BB and Crank on....

Reading through the forums here gave me the incentive to brake out my Dremel and sand paper.
I've decided to go for silver accents on this build.
I sanded the shifters down to the UD Carbon, gives them a nice marbles look in the sun. Sanded the levers down to the alloy. I've sanded the derailleurs down to the alloy, and the magnesium and carbon on the RD.
The callipers were ordered that way.
I'm thinking of sanding down the seat clamp to match...

Ugh. No crown race was included.... Just realized that....
And - no crown race needed I didn't realize that R series Cervelo don't use a crown race with the oversized fork tube at the bottom.

don't get me wrong, it looks good but i'll never understand how you can write cervelo on a cheap frame... the paint scheme, yeah, cool, why not?! but i would have written smth unique, smth personal on that frame... a name, a word, whatever... instead of rca, put your initials, your kids', your gf's initials, your wife's, or your girlfriend's and wife's! but maybe that's just me?
In the confines of this forum thread, is simply pictures and my words about building a bike that makes me happy, and so far everything I have shown makes me very happy

Another -1 on the fake frame, that's just uncool in my book. Why not sand the frame as well? On a forum where engineers from leading brands share insight on their R&D, it feels out of place.
Apart from the pirated frame, this will be an interesting build. Strictly for climbing - so no descending planned?

I would like to keep this thread about the WW build - and how a light bike can be made for only $2,000.
Therefore in the interest of keeping this thread updated and hopefully on topic - the frame will be censored so as to not offend anyone.
