Parlee Z Zero - Custom

Hello all.

I thought you may enjoy seeing my new Parlee Z Zero. It's a custom geometry frameset, with custom paint - clear coat over raw carbon with fluro pink highlights and ghost logo on the underside of the down tube.

The build is:

Campagnolo Super Record (2015 update)
eeCycleworks eeBrakes (2015 update)
Campagnolo Shamal Mille wheelset (incredibly good value imho)
Custom painted Enve bars, stem and post
Arundel cages (I've added another since these shots were taken)
Custom bartape
Dura Ace pedals (because they're the best pedals I've ever used and I don't really care about mixing them with a Campy groupset)

I'm aware that there is a LOT of seatpost hanging out on this bike, there is with all of my bikes. I don't need it pointed out to me (even though I know how much people love pointing it out - sorry to spoil the fun). Before you ask - I'm 6'6" and that's mostly legs.

All up she comes in at 6.86 kilos with cages, pedals etc. Not super light, but not too shabby for a robust build.

The ride is, as you would imagine, exceptional. In fact, this is the closest I've come on carbon to a ride that has the same life as Ti.

I think tan sidewalls would complement the bike more.
I would change the handlebar/lever position...



I am not a fan of pink, but somehow this bike looks interesting to me.

Yes, I've changed the handlebar position to a more neutral one already.

Tan sidewalls looked absolutely hideous on this one. Which surprised me frankly, as I was with you - I thought they'd look fabulous.

As a fellow card carrying member of the "tall glass of water cycling club", I know how difficult it can be to make a really big frame look elegant. You've done so really nicely.

Impressive saddle-to-bar drop too!

A nice bike. I don't understand why you went with such a large frame. Your stem is high and your seat is high.
Would it not have been better to get a smaller frame, Just curious.

so that the complaints about the amount of spacers can start coming in...

Xena, i don't think you understand bike sizing. If the stem has spacers underneath and there is a lot of seatpost sticking out then the option is to go to a larger frame, less seatpost sticking out, no spacers under stem etc. BUT then the reach would normally increase (unless custom)

Xena - my stem is not high actually. There's 15mm of spacer under the stem - and that's there really to give me a little bit of room to move down should my flexibility increase. My seat post is high, that's for sure. My saddle height (center BB to top of saddle as measured through the saddle clamp) is 875mm, with 301mm of that being from top of seat clamp to top of saddle (again measured through saddle clamp). Here's some more measurements:

Top Tube: 573mm
Head Tube: 195mm
Stem: 120mm
Fork Crown to Fork Tip: 372mm
Trail: 56mm
Front Center: 598mm
Chain Stay: 415mm
Head Tube Angle: 73.3 degrees
Seat Tube Angle: 73 degrees
Horizontal Saddle Tip To Center Bars: 596mm
Point-To-Point Saddle Tip To Center Bars: 620mm
Frame Stack: 595mm
Frame Reach: 391mm
Bar Reach: 495mm
Saddle Set Back: 101mm

That should give anyone with a working knowledge of frame geometry an idea of the size and riding style of this bike. Hope those figures help - if anyone wants to see the CAD this frame was made from I'm happy to post it.

Nifty - true, but it's a fine balance between too large a frame and too small. This custom geo hits the mark perfectly for my fit.
