Ηi Jumma - as you may remember I also have a similar build (exactly the same frame) with DA 9000 mechanical components.
I am thinking to go in Di2 with internal battery cabling.
Since I want to build it myself could you please point which parts you used for the build? I think that i will need the following parts :

Junction SM-JC41
battery SM-BTR2 + SM-BCR2 charger
Shimano SM-EW90 Junction Kit B type
SM-EW90-B Wires : Down Tube Wire 750mm + Front Derailleur Wire 350mm + Rear Derailleur Wire 550mm + Battery Wire 350mm

Do you think thats all? Is there an other part I am missing?
I plan to mount the battery in existing S-Works seatpost using some kind of foam to keep it in place

If you can sent some closer pics how you route the cabling will be very helpful :-)

Thanks in advance

I just recently built up the same frame with Di2. Your wires are going to be alittle too short it looks like. I went by the wiring sizes that Specialized recommends. The only difference is I went with a 750mm battery wire, which is still enough to remove the seatpost and disconnect the wire. Your frame should have come with the adaptors needed to mount the internal battery, if not you can order it from a Specialized dealer. I'd also recommend the Ritchey di2 battery holder if you want to go that route.

Hi Gmakris

Yes, I remember your build, very nice bike. I love the black frame, without all the extra advertising. It is clean and understated. All it really needs to say in S-works and that, I think, is enough! Unlike my Giant TCR, which is like an advertising billboard for Giant. You'd think Giant was paying me advertising royalties for riding the thing. Still a great bike, though, nowhere near the S-works.

I get comments all the time on the bike. Everyone loves it. I love riding it even more, it is such a great frame and set up.

As for the Di2, Yes, your parts look right from what I recall. As preludervtec has indicated, if your frame didn't come with the bits for the conversion, then get from Specialized. The internal seat battery is the only way to go. I have the extrernal mount on my TCR Ultegra Di2 and it is a bit ugly really, and open to the dirt, water etc.

You will love DA with Di2. It is so smooth, instant and precise.

I look forward to hearing how you go with it. It's not cheap but well worth it in my opinion. I like mechanical, but once you use Di2, it is hard to go back!!!

Enjoy

em3 wrote:Nice build but the headset spacers look off...appears diemeter of spacers does not match diameter of stem. Try replacing with a tapered bearing cover/volcano cap which will eliminate the straight spacer tower with a slowly tapering single spacer / bearing cover (for an example see pics on my R5 linked in my signature). U can find the tapered bearing cover on the Specialized website.

Em3 - with the new spacer and cover I assume you mean replace some of the spacers with a tapered spacer?

I currently have something like 25mm of spacers under the stem (5+5+5+10) and another 10 on top of the stem with the standard specialised cap and screw bolt.

At the base of the stock of spacers there is a cover, which goes over the top bearing to load the bearing, keep it all in place and protect from dust.

Do I keep this cover and the first couple of spacers say 5+5 at the bottom of the stack, then add a 15mm tapered spacer above that, followed by the stem?

I have checked and the current carbon spacers and they measure about 35mm OD with 29mm (actually 28.6 or 1-1/8") ID, giving a 3 to 3.5mm thick wall. The stem appears to be around 32mm OD, i.e. About 2mm alloy walls.

So the way I see it, I need a spacer that tapers from the 35mm to the 32-33mm OD, whilst maintains the 29mm internal diameter. This would match the stem diameter. Is this correct?

I have read a couple of places where people have purchased aftermarket tapered caps and spacers, replacing the top of bearing dust cover, to find that the grooving is different and they don't sit quite right.

Is this the idea? To leave the original bearing top cap in place and just install a taper spacer from some 35mm OD TO 32-33mm OD?

The only thing left then I guess is to replace the top spacer, above the stem with a 32mm OD spacer to finish it off flush.

Other option I imagine is to simply replace all the spacers I now have with 32mm OD spacers, so they all sit flush with the diameter of the stem?

I don't know why the supplier supplied 35mm OD carbon spacers when the stem is obviously designed for 32mm OD spacers!!!

By the way, that's a nice cervelo, and the stem looks very nice with the taper.

Thanks.

No it's not off the shelf. You can't get this frame "off-the-shelf" here in Australia. You have to buy it, buy all the components separately and build it up.

I chose mostly S-Works components to keep it all consistent. You can't get an "off-the-shelf" with Di2 and black frame unless you buy the Disc version, which is then the disc module frame.

You can get a DA mechanical with the white frame, but not Di2 unless you ask for a non-standard build.

I guess it all then comes down to your definition of "custom". Perhaps there is nothing custom about round wheels on a bike!! I also didn't know I had to build my own unique frame in my garage for it to be custom or if I slam it, is it then custom!?. If this is the case, then this site would be - FULL OF FAILS!!

Anyhow. Thanks for the positive comments ... they see me rollin'......

Congratulations on completely missing the point. I didn't say it WAS off the shelf, it just looks identical to one that I could walk into a dealership, have a look and walk out with and which are, quite frankly, a common sight. A clubmate of mine rides an identical bike to yours, same spec, everything. I too ride a S-Works, full campag chorus, boras, 3T finishing kit. Never seen another one like it, only ones with massive variations in spec. Now THAT'S custom ;)

Congratulations on having nothing but negative input to this forum topic. A common off the shelf stem and wheels don't make an S-works any more custom but you keep telling yourself that. The point wasn't missed at all [emoji6]

Hey, don't get butthurt just because you ride a run of the mill bike. Yes, it looks smart but nothing out of the ordinary mate, sorry.
