Hi all,

Would love to get advice on how to drop some weight on my 2013 focus cayo evo, this is my first bike, started riding back in July 2014, have over 3k miles on it:

Image

Here are the components, sorry I don't have weights, I don't have a scale. Current total weight is 7.4kg.

Focus Cayo Evo 2013 Frameset
Ultegra 6700 groupset (brakes, derailleurs, shifters, chain & cassette)
Roval Rapide CL40 wheels
FSA SLK-Light Compact Crankset
FSA SLK Carbon seatpost
Specialized Comp Multi Stem (90mm, 17 degrees)
Fizik Superlight Bar Tape
FSA Vero Compact handlebars
Look Keo Blade 2 CR Pedals
Continental Grand Prix 2 4000 tires (25's)
Continental race light tubes
S-Works Romin Saddle (155mm)
Shimano Road PTFE cables and housing
Bontrager RXL Bottle Cages

I know I can shave weight on the wheels but I just bought them at a great price ($900) and don't want to change them or tires. I am happy riding 25 conti's regardless of weight penalty. I don't want to spend more than 1k on upgrades. My goal is to get the bike sub 7kgs. This is my first post, so apologies if I made any errors and any help is appreciated!

:welcome:

Handlebar. Go for lighter alu, like Ritchey WCS Curve.
Stem.Uno Ultralight, you'll save a few grams there for shure. Maybe you'll need to work on your position a little ;) .
Seatpost. Again, Ritchey WCS is lighter, or asian carbon.
Alloy housings. Can lose a few grams, but pricey.
Quick releases. Asian Ti Qr's.
Ti pedal spindles.
KMC X10SL Chain.
Dura Ace 7800 or 7900 (best), or alloy cassette.

Louis :)

The easiest and best way would be to sell me that chainset
Just what I want for my Bianchi build.

Trim the rear mech cable and you should knock off 100 grams.

:welcome:

Serious, trim that!

Nice bike and not a bad build to be honest. Agree with LouisN on the bar/stem/seatpost upgrade... There are plenty of lightweight options out there but splitting $1k amongst the three will require you doing some sifting. Ebay probably has the best bang for your buck in terms of upgrades.

sell the ultegra shifters-brakes-derailleurs and go for sram force.

In that case, you can keep the 10speed sh splined cassette-wheels. :)

Thanks for all the great tip guys. Going to pull the trigger on these handlebars:

Image

Found a great deal for them ($300)

Should shave 140 grams off my bike

Also getting these skewers:

Found them for $60. I think they are 34 grams for the pair.

I also agree on the stem, I got retul fit after about 2 months of riding, and the stem was cut on my bike, so my fitter put me in a more upright position to start. That's why the stem is 17 degrees up. I am getting used to the position and will probably get a re-fit in the next few months and change the stem then to a more aggressive position. That's when I'll buy a lighter stem.

Yes, I had no idea that you could do that. The guy who recently changed my cables set it up that way. After looking at other bikes, I can see what you mean.

You serious about the 100 grams? I didn't know cables weighed that much....

Thanks Louis. How much weight savings do you think I will get on a dura ace cassette over ultegra? I have also heard about some issues with the 10 speed dura ace cassettes in terms of durability and defects.

SL-K "Light" cranks are anything but light. I'd toss it and put a Red 22 crankset on there.

Seatpost is a porker. I'd put a Hylix on there and hacksaw the excess off.

Brakes. Lots of lighter options.

Please trim that rear cable! I would replace crank and wheels. Get a hand built set to get the lightest parts within budget.
