Really good build/first post.

Any reason you didn't go with a deep carbon wheel to seemingly match the vibe of the frame? Regardless, I'll be watching this thread.

That frame is really heavy. Looks good though.

In defense of that frame - for an aero bike - I believe an s-works Venge is around 1150g in a 54 ... pretty decent for a frame that's not the FRD version - agree on the good looks of the 2015 though :)

The frame weight to me is good, especially if it includes bottle cage bolts, hardware and seatmast clamp. The seat post though... Uffff, that's heavy.

Looking forward to the finished project.

Mine Venge 54 frame was 1032 with heavy blue and yellow paint, but not as aero as the AR. I loved my venge, but would choose the AR if given a choice. Next year my team is on the TMR so I will see how that compares. Heavier than both I assume.

Good luck with rest of the build. It will be a rocketship.

At this point there were four things that stopped me from getting a set of deep aero carbon wheels.

1. My wallet- not enough of the green stuff in it.
2. Braking- carbon just doesn't brake as well in my experience.
3. Tubeless- I have been running tubeless and refuse to go back, only Easton that I know of is tubeless so far.
4. Hill climbing- I'm a climber, I want to just assist my climbing ability and not hinder it with heavy aero wheels.

I run a team and we are sponsored by Industry nine.. so, I'm awaiting a 40-50mm wheel to become available from them in a tubeless carbon.

As for the frame weight: yes, I was also hoping for 1000g or under, maybe if I weighed it without the hardware.
As for the seat post = WHOA HEAVY! completely agree! Just no reason for it to be that heavy!

Overall though, this bike is meant to be raced. So I'm looking for something that will give me an advantage over what I am currently riding (2013 Felt F75, i-9 wheels tubeless, Ultegra 6800: 16lbs). I believe that I can still get this build to be somewhere around the 15lb (6.8kg) mark and have an aero weapon that will also climb well for the race season.

Climbers descend and ride on the flats, too.

sure they do, but to imply your choice in bike is due to being "a climber" one would expect you'd buy a bike that climbs better.

I'm not criticizing the choice in bike, only the comment.

Let's think about this in comparison to my current bike:

2013 Felt F75 weighing in at 16lbs
vs.
2015 Felt AR1 which I hope to weigh in around the 15lb mark.

So, how did I not just improve on what I had for a climbing tool? The AR1 should be stiffer and lighter. :D no?

oh, and that was in response to deep profile rims, not the frame. :D

That Venge weight simply isn't true.

This one is different than the other Venge I was referencing but close enough for government work - only point however was the fact that the frame was right in the ballpark with other fancy pants aero frames.

Ill hold out for a 900 gram painted aero bike myself though lol.

Those silver wheels are going to look mint on that frame/ Does the 2015 AR1 model have the same layup as the 2014 frd?

I believe the answer to be "no"... They did add the use of -Textreme- to the AR1 this year, but I believe that the AR-FRD is still a step above, and I would assume lighter. AS it should be for the 4K price tag!
