Custom Stainless Steel - Saffron Frameworks/Super Record

Hi,

I'm building a new best bike, based around a custom stainless steel frameset from Saffron Frameworks, and thought I would document the build here. It's not going to be a weight weenie build, but I'm hoping it will turn out somewhere between 7.0 - 7.5kg all in. Build list is as follows, with a few pics of the start of the build after. I will add new pics of the frame as I get them, same for the build kit, which I will try to remember to weigh and take pics of and add to the thread as I get it. I won't have pics of the fork, the headset or the seatpost as these are being sourced by Matthew at Saffron for me. The seatpost, fork and stem will be getting custom painted to match the frame. Frame is a Columbus XCR front triangle, with a custom machined 44mm headtube, and Reynolds 953 seat & chain stays. I have the geometry and can post it if anyone is interested, but it's in a PDF file and I couldn't work out how to upload that, so have left it out!

Wheels - Campagnolo Bora One 35 Dark Label - 502g Front & 702g Rear - 1204g pair, shimano freehub
Tyres - FMB Competition CX 25's - 276g/288g

Lovely could n't you get the super record RS groupset unless you the SR kicing around in your spares box. Liking your tyre choice.

It's going to be the new 2015 Super Record, as I think I might be one of the very few that prefers the new crank shape...

The new crank design looks really really close to the shimano. Even the front derallieur.. but, as always, campy is a lot more sexy

Why not use the CK Inset 8 instead of Inset 7? Inset 8 is specifically designed for 1 1/4 to 1 1/8 tapered fork. Or am I missing something?

Never give a stainless steel tubeset to a framebuilder who does not TIG weld.

I7 is for 1 1/8 to 1.5 Tapered
I Use it also in My amaro purploren

For your weight goal,
7.0 kg with Those Parts ...

I use much lighter Parts ob my purploren and will Hit the scale at 7.8kg around with reynolds 46 Clincher, ck R45 and cx Ray which are Heavy 1415 Grams
Think 7.5 are more realistic

Ok just checked Enve's website, apparently there's 3 version of enve 2.0 forks.

1) 1 1/8 straight
2) 1 1/8 - 1 1/4 tapered
3) 1 1/8 - 1 1/2 tapered

Guess the OP is going 1 1/8 - 1 1/2 tapered on this to go with the CK Inset 7.

Wheels - I already have a set of Ambrosio Nemesis/Campag Record hub box sections, and prefer the look of a slightly deeper rim(around 30-40mm). I'm tall(1.95m) so the box section rims can make an already very large frame look even bigger IMO.

Fork - Going with the 1 1/2 tapered version as MARLON says.

Also, I'm pretty sure the weight will be up nearer 7.5 or even 8kgs, but I really don't know what the frame is going to weigh in at, so that will make most of the difference. I know it's not the done thing round here, but weight really wasn't a priority on this build, I was just buying something I wanted as a bike I will keep for 20 years, if that makes sense.

If it were me I would go with HED belgain C2 tubular rims and White industries T11 hubs and CX-ray spokes. Either that or a good 25mm wide carbon tubular rim.

I see nothing wrong with brazing.
