Kinesis FF29 9.94kg more work to come! now with pics

Well I have one it is all in pieces at the moment. I have built the wheels.

Light bicycle 29er carbon disc brake only tubular rims on Miche 966 6 bolt disc brake hubs with sapim laser spoke and alloy nipples. 1417g and the rims are 330g each so if I had used lighter hubs like DT Swiss 240 I would have saved nearly 100g.




the rest of the build will follow over the next week. I have to do it soon as the next race is on the 7th Sept.

Oh the Challange one tubs I have are 620g.

Glue on the rear wheel has added 17g and for the front has 20g of glue.

I googled some pictures of the FF29. Seems like a solid base for these nice parts you're adding. What size frame is yours?

Fork Kinesis FF29er fork 710g for Q/R. The 15mm thru axle version is 810g and is being sold.
Frame Large 2032g, heavy but it will be very stiff should handle well.
Cane creek seatpost shim 31.6 to 27.2mm 48g
FSA orbit headset 77g
Zenith carbon bung 42g
shimano 10 speed xtr/da chain 257g with master link

Partly assembled tonight forgot to weight the brakes but hoses need to be cut so any weight would be off anyway.

Total weight 9.94kg.

There is plenty of lighter kit I can put on. The steerer tube will be cut down when I am happy with position. A shorter stem is quite likely to be needed as this stem came of my 26" Orange.

I might fit a lighter seat post, saddle, stem and bars at come point. Given the weight of what I have currently alot could be saved there. I'll give it a good caning tonight but I am expecting great things. First race is on sunday

First run has showed me the stem is the right length but I may need to flip it. Over rough ground a rigid 29er performs as well as a hardtail 26er which does not suprise me. The only problem is the out of round challange tyres which is disapointing. These will be replaced with Geax 29er tubs when the arrive later this month. I hope those will round.

Just got some Schwable Racing Ralph tubular tyres today. 525g each. So thats 190g to be saved overall when they go on this weekend. The Challange tyres are not even round so they need to come off, shame becuase otherwise I quite like them. The thread pattern on the ralph looks alot better though.

I'll swap over the XT pedals I have and re weigh it. The more I ride this bike the more I love it.
