The frame tubing looks nearly fat/super oversidesed in that framesize.i got a 63cm mx leader and its has that more classic skinny tube look. I like a fat looking bike (; specialy when its a merckx (;

@cyclistrong : it is extralite stock wheels 2009, Extralite paired with zipp 303 1st generation rims, w/o dimples or firecrest. The rims wide looks normal 21mm on my scales. Theres 5mm space on cornering chain stay, On the fork & seat stay still have a plenty space even if I put 25mm tires. I'm trying to update pictures for those three tight spot.

I will pile on: GREAT build. I wanted one of these frames so bad back in the day. I'd take off the wheel stickers, but otherwise well done.

Good on you!!!

How does it ride? Wheels stiff enough?

Inspiring build!

Wow, a classic with a new dress!
This one needs a ride report to critique it's new moves.
I have those same 1st generation 2001 zipp 303s but mine with zipp hubs are over 1350 grams.

Dear all, thanks to see this Eddy Merckx MXL retro classic build,
The last check this post was in last July,
I just check today and so happy for still have any response from you all..THANKS&THANKS for the comment.
@imanchester : Agus Ciumbuleuit phone is +62 857 2275 7522 - you cant text him or contact me to helps.
@jvanv8 & de zwarten : How it rides ? This 2008/9 extralite wheels have some issues problem backyears,
the extralite 908gr ultraclimb have blue titanium spokes that easily broke. In hard training I used another extralite 840gr wheels with better spokes & weight.
I have 6 lovely steel bikes that weighs between 5,6 to 7 kg, hope will posted soon.
The closest case to compare this mxl merckx is the 2014 Pegoretti Responsorium.
Those 2 bikes have almost similar sub 7kg build.
Merckxs age left almost 20 years from the Pegoretti.
But I put almost all modern parts on Merckx to catch the low weight with performance.
This Merckx really fast on constant flat, can climb but not as aggressive as the Stainless Pegoretti Responsorium.
I really enjoyed this Merckx on distances riding, I think the performance comes from all modern parts I put, especially the wheels & a Stiff Storck Powerarms crankarms.
On vintage build, this MXL will close to 10kg.
Some great team like Kelme, Panasonic, Telekom & Motorola using this MXL Merckx at the end,
I'm agree that at that time this Ovalized tube improves more stiffness & rigidity.
Regards

wow that is very light and very pretty. Really like the choice of stem. Must make a real effort with the sannino next year and it below 7kg.
