Thanks.
The old 8-speed record group was awful. Barely rideable. Hated it. I knew a modern group would immediately make a difference. Weight wasn't a huge concern. I wanted smooth action and reliability.
I was already familiar with Shimano, so I was already leaning towards 6800 (9000 felt like too much of a splurge for this build). The new Force 22 also looked somewhat tempting, despite SRAM QA being famously questionable in the past.
In the end, I found a deal on the 6800 group and wheels that was just too good to ignore, so that, coupled again with familiarity, is what cinched it for me.
Once I had it all set up and took it for the first ride, it was immediately obvious I'd made the right choice. I really, really love 6800. It's like butter.

I remember when I lost my 3ttt Status stem cap too. They became coveted possessions after a couple of seasons.

Nice, thought I might have one of those stem covers floating around but just checked and it's slightly different. Wheels, tires, group... All look great on that frame. Nice job.

Love the paintjob, hot like lava! The black/dark grey components really make it pop.

That looks absolutely gorgeous, nice work. Love the paintjob on the frame, they just don't make them like that any more.

NRV, that is odd that you had trouble with 8-speed Record. It remains for me (and I am certain a few oldsters here would agree) the best grouppo I have ever owned and used. I still have two Campy 8-speed grouppos in use that run like butter.
Regardless, the bike looks great.
If you find another stem cap, hot-glue it into place.

Maybe poor (or lack of) maintenance from the previous owner had something to do with it. The group was pretty deteriorated. No matter how hard I tried, I just could not get the drivetrain to a proper working state.
On the other hand, 6800 has been a dream to both, ride and maintain. I haven't looked back.

I must admit! IT's a stunner! I like the handlebars too. What are they?
The ultegra chainset is astonishing with its dark gray tone on this warm coloured slender frame.
