You're making a lot of great choices on this build! I;m excited to see it... and if this guy learned anything from Dekerf then this bike will be amazing to ride and finished to an exacting quality.

Thanks for the positive feedback. I am really looking forward to getting this built up and out for a ride.

@Powerful Peter - I'm 193cm

@Quinn039 - if you look at his shop website you will get an idea of some of their work. Great attention to detail with their builds, and they stock a lot of parts not common in other shops here. They also do a lot of handbuilt wheels.
One aspect unique I like is that the wheels and frame have been built by the same person, not something too common these days.

Finally I got the frame back from painting. There was a big delay as when it was delivered and unpacked after painting there was damage to the paint that occurred during transit even thought it was carefully boxed up and wrapped in bubble wrap.
Anyway off it went back to the painters via courier to be repainted.. It arrived back yesterday and the paint appears to be perfect.
Build up will start on Monday, and pending delivery of one or two small parts should be ready to ride later in the week.
It's been a loooooong process, but I think the end product will be amazing.

A quick progress pic, still waiting on the Masterpiece seat post.
I will post some pics taken with my Canon once the build is complete.

This Holden (GM Australia) Efijy show car was the inspiration for the colour, the polished crank on the DA7800 and the silver post, stem etc.

I finally picked the bike up after work today.
Got it home and weighed it - 8680g. I'm pretty happy with the weight, as there are no carbon bits on this bike at all, and it is still lighter than many mid range carbon bikes on the market.
I can easily drop over 800g without changing out many parts, and probably 1.2 - 1.5kg if I change out bar, stem, groupset, wheels etc.
The EASY weight:
Saddle 309 - 179 = 120g
Skewers 135g - 41g = 91g
Wheels 1698g - 1350g = 348g
Cassette 68g
Pedals 42g
Cables - 50g
Bar tape 50g
Cages - 50g
TOTAl - 819g

More EXPENSIVE weight that could be saved is
Groupset - 200g plus
Bars 110g
Stem - 40g,
Wheels - 300g over saving listed above
Expander plug - 40g
Total 690g
for a potential total weight drop of 1500g bringing the weight down to 7180g , but being ultralight was not the aim of this build. In a few years I might repaint it and go all carbon to achieve this

Tomorrow I will take it out for a good ride to see how it rides and handles, and take a few pictures.

Test ride done.
With the first few pedal strokes I was surprised how light it felt knowing it is over 2kg heavier than my Parlee Z5.
Fit was perfect and within one or two mm of my Parlee.
The ride is awesome. Steering is precise and the bike just glides along.
It is stiff but comfortable with a bit less road buzz than the Z5. Smooth is the only way to describe it.
If I had to close my eyes it would be hard to tell the difference from the Z5 with regards to handling, but this was to be expected as the geometry was based on my Z5.
There is plenty of space to fit bigger tyres, with room for 28 or 30mm in the rear if I ever wanted to go that wide and the brake calipers accommodated them.
I've also had a few very positive comments on how it looks. The paint sparkles in the sunlight.
The design brief was to build a steel bike with similar ride characteristics to my Z5, and this is spot on.
This is definitely a bike I will be keeping for a long time.
A worthy successor to my custom Reynolds 653 frame that this replaces.

Very nice, but not a big fan of name stickers, especially on a custom bike, where yours is going to be the only one in that colour, that you will ever see.

@ NiFTY - I'm presuming you mean having my name on the bike and not the Jonesman logo. It's not a sticker, it's painted on.
I just asked for my first name in the same script as the Jonesman logo, but the painter has painted a previous bike for me and somewhere the message got mixed up.

How much was the frame weight alone ?

Also, is the TT spirit as well ? IIRC the max TT length for Spirit tubing was 57cm.
