What started out as a fairly mild-mannered wheel-swap has turned into a fairly major rebuild.

My System Six did weigh in at 6.76 kg in it's "final form" last year, the build list was as follows:

- 58cm bare alloy/carbon frame, 1,350g
- FSA integrated headset
- Super Six hi-mod fork
- 3T LTD 120mm stem, 42cm Ergosum, 350mm Doric
- Arione R1
- 404 FC tubs, 23c Veloflex carbon tubs
- Zipp Ti skewers
- 7900 12-27 cassette
- SiSl cranks w. 110bcd SRM, Praxis 52/36 rings
- Tune seatpost collar
- Di2 shifters and mechs
- Custom made in-seatpost battery
- Speedplay zero Ti pedals
- Ultralite Exustar expander bung
- Carbon top-cap, alloy bolt
- EE Cycleworks second gen brakes
- Powercordz cables and housing (non-segmented)
- Alloy PC mount
- PC-7 (not counted in weight)
- King Ti cages X2
- Lizard skins DSP tape

Now this is looking like the following:
- 58cm steel frame, 1,800g
- Chris King inset top, external lower race tapered headset
- ENVE 2.0 fork
- 3T LTD 42cm Ergosum, 350mm Dorico
- 3T Team 120mm stem
- Arione R1
- 2014 HED Stinger 4's, Schwalbe Ultremo HT 25c tubs
- Need skewers
- 7900 12-27 cassette
- SiSl cranks w. 110bcd Power2Max, Praxis 52/36 rings
- Needs a seatpost collar- suggestions?
- Di2 shifters and mechs
- Custom made in-seatpost battery
- Speedplay zero Ti pedals
- Ultralite Exustar expander bung
- Carbon top-cap, alloy bolt
- EE Cycleworks second gen brakes
- Powercordz cables and segmented
- Alloy Tilquist mount
- Garmin 800 (not counted in weight)
- King Ti cages X2
- Lizard skins DSP tape

I think that lot is going to come in at ~7.2kg, I'd love to stay under 7 (for no rational reason, tbh), what changes can I make to get there?

You can shed weight with a lighter stem, saddle, cages and cassette. What are you looking to spend?

I had the Smud cages before, liked them but too fragile.

Cassette is a good call- what were you thinking?

This bikes primary purpose is a 10% climb, hence the 12-27.

What skewers and seat post collar would people recommend?

I need to check the weight on those tubs.

Skewers: after much deliberating I settled on the Zipp Aero Ti. Good compromise between something like DA / external cam style and the exotic ultralights. Weigh in at 55g. Kinda personal preference really - lots of threads around discussing pros and cons of each.

Seatpost collar: I went with a Token Ti bolt, mostly because of the aesthetics - 11g. Like skewers, you can go a few grams lighter for an exotic all carbon model, or slightly heavier but a bit more bomb-proof. Again, depends on what your priorities are. Personally I like the seat post collar to stand out a bit, and add a bit of flare. Tons of options.

Toronto cycles has a bunch of options - good place to start your search:

You can go with a Recon aluminum or a KCNC full titanium.

If you don't race like me, the Control Tech Race SL bolt on skewers are only 29g.

It doesn't make sense to start a WW build with 1kg excess frame weight.

Someone has to have the lightest build on a 1.8kg frame. But, Eric brings up a good point. What's the story with this frame? Extra-special and worth the weight?

I had the System Six down to 6.4kg, then the weight came back up with "proper" aero wheels (Zipps when I did have Farsports), the power meter, and things like the WW skewers not being strong enough to hold the wheel in place when climbing.

This is, as Eric points out, never going to be a WW bike- but with that said I'd still like it to not be heavier than it has to be.

7kg is no ones idea of a WW bike, but it's my target for this.

The frame is a carefully selected mixture of Spirit, MAX, 853 and Paragon Machine works.

If we'd wanted ultimate lightweight then we'd probably have used only Spirit.

Well for the ultimate light weight you'd have used carbon but I get your point. You have most of the major pieces. The wheels are kinda heavy, you could get some lighter FarSports.

The Power2Max is heavier than other PMs. The Stages is the lightest @ 20g and is available on the SISL crank. But it has drawbacks which you may or may not be able to live with. Quarq is about 80g lighter on the same crank but I don't think it is available on the SISL crank, and the heavier cranks it's on will negate the weight savings.

I use the King Ti cages on my light bike. They don't break and the bottles don't rattle.
