After months of deliberating on a what to do for a race bike, I finally pulled the trigger on this 2008 Addict R4 off of Craigslist. It was a great deal and the frame is in excellent shape. With all of the matte black/stealth builds happening (been there, done that myself), white felt like the right choice. I'll be keeping frame only, ditching everything else.

It's currently completely stock, sitting at 7911 grams.

Nice, looking forward to this build. What are you thinking?
Road bike: Cervelo R3, Campagnolo Chorus/Record mix...
Supercommuter: Jamis Renegade...
Oldie but goodie: De Rosa Professional Slx, Campagnolo C-Record...
And you can call me Macktastik Honey Pete Kicks, thank you.

I have an original Red grouppo from 2008-09 and a set of 2009 404s that should pair well with this frame (2008).

Haven't decided yet if I'm going to push for a complete period-specific build yet.

Hung most of the parts. Have a lot of fork to cut. 3690g so far.

Going to have to run an old set of bars until the Zipp SLs I ordered a week ago actually ship :x

Here's the initial build...6560g. (hold the cut the fork comments) Needed something to ride as my main ride is about to get shipped across the pond ahead of me.

Frame (56): 952g
Fork: 359g

Planned upgrades in the near future are:

1. Aforementioned Zipp SL bars
2. Brakes that...brake. (1st edition Red brakes are a little scary)
3. Tune the Masterpiece post
4. Bottle cages

Like! Looks sharp....with the exception of the chain. Otherwise very well sorted IMHO. :beerchug:

Nice build. I think the chain looks fine personally.

After trimming the fork and replacing the bars with a pair of Zipp SLC2 traditional bend, I'm down to 6400g. Time for the ride report. :x

I've been out on a handful of rides, and when compared to my Cronus (http://weightweenies.starbike.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=117036), I'm a little...disappointed. At this point, they are basically the same build, except frame/fork. The geometry is different, but I notice it mostly in the amount of drop, and I actually prefer the drop in the Addict, which is more. So I don't think it's the fit that's bothering me.

The ride is not nearly as snappy as the Cronus, both in handling and acceleration (this is compared using the same wheels, 404s or King/Velocity/DT Swiss trainers). I've eliminated what I figured was the most likely culprit, incorrect BB/crank installation/break in period the crank spins very freely with no play.

My last experience on an Addict was admittedly quite some time ago, but the bike I rode, the "Pink Cigarette", was a rocket:

It's not a bad ride, just really surprised that when race-day rolls around every Thursday, I have no desire to ditch my Cronus for this bike. :noidea:
