Awesome! What is the intended/promised weight of the frame?

No promised weight. The (non-disc) show bike that was making the rounds was claimed @ 750 grams. It was, however, a matte black frame. Both the Kandy Red (lots of layers of silver/red, silver/red) and the ISP will add weight, though I'll save weight by not using a seatpost. I'm hoping the frame is ~900 grams.

The fork is proprietary to Parlee, so I have no idea there. They've been working with ENVE for quite a while (and Reynolds before that), so I imagine that the Z-Zero fork is based off the ENVE 1.0. Hopefully it'll be sub-300 grams.

Once I decided on the paint, I didn't plan out the frame to be uber-light, but I'll be very curious to see where it comes in. Trust that I'll be weighing *everything* I can (the PF30 bearings are pressed-in at Parlee).

Looking forward to more pics and a build report. I'm sure it will be worth the wait.
Some custom builders have far longer wait times. I love the colour you have chosen, it looks stunning.

The frame came in yesterday, and I admit that I was surprised at the weight. Whereas there were no promises made, the matte black frame that was making the press rounds was supposedly 750g. I've added an ISP and paint (and, I'll admit, heavy paint).

I didn't expect, however, that the frame would come in over 1kg:

Image

The fork isn't *too* bad. It includes the weight of the crown race, and it hasn't yet been cut:

Image

I had them paint an ENVE stem (110mm) to match the frame, and it came back at only 1g heavier than when it left:

Image

I also asked for them to paint the logo on my ENVE compact bar gloss black (instead of white) but, for some inexplicable reason, they painted the whole bar gloss black. Not sure whether I'm going to use it, use an "unmolested" ENVE compact bar, or search the planet for one of the Cannondale Evo black ENVE bars (anybody want to sell one?):

Despite the weight, she sure is a looker (and this horrible pic under fluorescent lights does it no favors):

I'll start posting parts for the build in bits and pieces:

Wheels

The "everyday" wheels I'm planning to use are ENVE 3.4 SES tubulars built on Chris King Shimano 11-speed hubs. Not the lightest tubular wheelset by any stretch, and I have lighter wheels in a pair of Mavic CCUs; I've been wanting to try the SES wheels, however, since they came out, and this seems like a good opportunity.

The build and finish quality on the wheels (and the hubs!) is fantastic.

Front Wheel : 550g
Rear Wheel : 722g

Wheelset : 1272g

ENVE claims 1253g, so these are coming in 19g overweight (at least on my old crappy scale):

That looks great, though I would be miffed at that weight as well. Did you by any chance ask Parlee why such a discrepancy?

@fa63 - I've asked my LBS to ask them about the (rather large) difference

@LionelB - The primary difference is that the Z1 is a pseudo-lugged bike (wrapped tube-to-tube construction) whereas the Z-Zero's tubes are bonded together in a manner that Parlee calls "fused". Frankly, they are trying to make a handmade bike that closely resembles a monocoque frame and reduce the total amount of carbon used at the joints. From the Parlee site:

PARLEE tube joining process: Pioneered on the Z1, our exclusive molding process is the technical benchmark for fusing carbon fiber tubes into a monolithic structure. Our process is neither “lugged” or traditional “tube to tube” construction. The Z-Zero joining process is more precise, more costly, and unmatched in strength, using only carbon fiber to fuse each tube to another in a manner that yields a wholly unified structure with almost zero redundant material.

Could all be bullshit, but we'll see how it rides.

In addition, the tubes are shaped. The downtube, for example, starts round at the headtube and becomes elliptical by the time it hits the seattube.

@fas62 & @PSM - I'll give 'em a few grams for the ISP (~50?). The question remains as to whether the remaining ~240g is justifiably paint or whether my bike is measurably larger (doubt it -- I'm a 55). I know I chose a *really* damn heavy paint. They have to do three layers of paint to get the Kandy Red paint effect, then they do an absurd number of clear coats to make it sparkle.

Hard to fathom, however, that the bike has over 1/2 lb. of paint on it.

I'd pick the phone and call them up instead!

@LionelB - I have a really good relationship with my LBS, and they've already called. We'll see what Tom has to say.

Despite being truly chuffed at how it looks, I *am* disappointed at the weight, as I feel like I'm starting my weenie build with one hand tied behind my back. Especially on Parlee's "halo" bike.

Hell, it isn't much lighter than my 'nago EPS:

I can believe that that three layers of paint and numerous layers of gloss weigh that.....not surprised.

That being said, the frame is the best looking frame I have ever seen......yep, I said that. I would gladly accept the weight penalty for a frame that looked like that! Spectacular! Really stoked to see this built up.

Quite a statement, and I appreciate it. I am really happy with how the frame turned out. It was a lot of back-and-forth to get to the geometry, color, and design (as simple as it may be). Nothing will change the weight now that it's built and painted, and it's frankly beautiful in person.

Hopefully I won't screw it up when I build it.
