I just got my hands on a BMC TMR02 with 105. I've stripped it down and the plan is to build it up as an affordable training bike. The plan is to get the weight below 6.8kg with a power meter and Rival22 as the majority of the groupset.

More updates and pics to come

Frame + GXP bb (no seals) + all trinkets - 1300g

Fork (more to cut) - 370g

Headset (swap expander with evo si, removing spacers) - 133g

Seatpost (swap bolt to Ti M8 40mm hex bolt)- 200g

Integrated rear brake (swap holders for something much lighter)- 164g

it's not gonna happened … U should be happy ( very happy ) @7.5 kg .
or it won't be Rival & affordable.

and what's the point changing 105 to Rival ?
U know rear break is for "shimano lever pull" ?

the brakes work with virtually any lever i've thrown at it to be fair. currently using ultegra 11 speed, but previously 105/ force 11 speed for a while.

only issue i've ever heard of is with campag. but that was down to bb issues.

Just shifters and rails will be rival22. They save about 200g over 105 and I find the hood shape much more comfortable. I absolutely have no idea why you think 6.8 is out of the question but I guess I'll have to prove myself on the scales

The budget isn't only loosely limited as I'm building this guy up slowly.

I originally budgeted for a new wheelset, some pacentis on BHS hubs that should come in around 1330g. I still might get them to reduce the headaches when swapping to fat carbon clinchers. That should afford me another 100g of breathing room.

Here is the proposed build at the moment:

If you're getting the Pacenti's, I repeat, do not use the planet X brakes! They're horrible with wide rims, close to no modulation and low braking power. Was using them with the 10 speed Sram Force, which should have the same pull ratio as your rival 22, on my Pacenti's. It's not worth the headache. Was so happy that I got rid of them!

Thanks for the heads up on the brakes. I've successfully ran the planet x brakes with sram red before but not on wide rims. I only need to pick up a front brake so I have plenty of light options without breaking the bank.

Any plans for the seat clamp besides changing the 1 bolt to Ti ?

I'm guessing it the same clamp as my TMR01 and its heavy.

It is the same, I think you discussed doing some tweaks to yours in the in the TMR01 thread. I think the top piece could probably be replaced with a lighter alloy piece from another post. I know some cheap posts use this design, I just have to track down the right piece. Right now I don't think I will be doing anything with the bottom piece as that interfaces with the post.

Yep, on non wide rims, they are perfect! I can use them fine bombing down a 20% + hill without issue, but the moment I went my Pacenti's, they're practically useless. Basically, the wider rim is not giving it enough travel.

I pulled some pieces out of my headset spares which netted a nice 53g weight savings for 0 dollars. Replacing the stock expander, bearing cover and spacers with FSA carbon bearing cover, Evo Si expander and a small carbon spacer.

Rival parts arrived pretty damn close to spec. I don't think I will be going for the fiber lyte back plate but I will be tuning all the bolts and possibly replacing the pulleys (stock 25g total). The RD might the one place I go true WW on and break out the dremel. The current goal is to land just above 6.8kg fully built and under budget. Then I will figure out where to cut the last ~100g at that point.

A TMR02 as a training bik? I'd be happy with it as a race bike! Awesome
