Second attempt to run a 29er/front on this bike but this time with a more 'proper' geometry. The first time (you can see in the beginning of this thread) I didn't do anything to compensate the taller front, wish was somehow 'not perfect' specially going uphill weeling sometimes.

Quick note on this front wheel: I totally scored!....my first 29er wheel was 703g (with tape and valve, no tire) and was with ZTR Crest rim and Cannondale Lefty Hub ...sold it a while ago...and now I just got this one for $170 with tire and the new wheel weight 594g (with tape and valve, no tire)....same Crest rim and Dale lefty Hub).

My intention is to replace this Maxxis Ardent 2.40 tire (815g) by a Rocket Ron 2.25 (520g).

And here is the main difference from before: my new Lefty axle-to-crown reducer solution :)
Its reducing 1 1/2 inch of travel...so now I have 72mm total...just enough for my type of riding!

Lovely bike and nice CAD work!

However, my engineering gut says that spider won't last to long... Or is at least not optimally designed to handle the loads it will be put through

Love this! My gut questions the same thing. I have some basic Solidworks skills but not there yet for simulations. I tried running a study but I don't know what kind of numbers I should be looking at. Two options: do more research or have a working prototype to test. The second option is more expensive but I'm inclined to do that.

How about this version? Better gut feelings? I will add more material around the slot there.
Question now is how thin I can go on this structure...WIP.

Much better, now the torsion can be translated into tension in the spider arms!
Look great again. What CAD program are you using? I use CATIA myself which has a build in F.E.M. analysis. This could help you get an idea of what this could handle.

Thanks, I use Solidworks 2013. I'm doing ok designing stuff butt still venturing myself with analysis and learning as I go. I did an analysis on this part but still don't know what kind of numbers I should be looking at. Hard to quantify the real world forces, translate that to the chairing and know what results I need.
