Great bikes, Vlanderren and Snob included, and the new Ace is damn hot.
As for the Mavic pedals, I love em!!
I'm a long time Look / Keywin / Speedplay user so I have tried em all.
I dig the Mavic's float, low weight, good feel under foot, and easy release.
Veeeery similar to Time, admittedly.
Finally, here is a quick Xentis Squad 5.8 review...
- Weight: at 1390 grams, they are about 150 grams lighter than an ENVE 6.7, 60 grams lighter than 3T Mercurio LTD 60, which is nice - they feel snappy and accelerate really well.
- Stiffness: we have had all manner of rider aboard these, and not one has complained about a lack of stiffness...brake rub has never been an issue for me, and power transfer feels great, especially with the straight pull hubsets on the Squad series.
- Braking: mixed reviews online, admittedly, but I firmly believe it is the best carbon braking surface in the industry, and yes that is even compared to the new Campy and Zipp brake surfaces. You do NOT need carbon specific pads, which is quite incredible, though we do recommend the SwissStop Xentis pad.
- Aerodynamics: The 42 mm wheelset (Squad 4.2) tested number two behind the new Zipp Firecrest in this summer's VeloNews carbon clincher shootout, beating ENVE, Mavic, Reynolds and many others. Enough said.
- Width: Maybe the one downside, they are not super wide profile, so best suited to 23 or 25 mm tires, though I have run 27's on them and don't mind that setup at all. That being said, Active Turbulator aero feature does make the wheelset handle more similarly to a wider wheel in crosswinds.
- Variety: we make the Xentis wheels in 3 series:
XBL - glossy 12K rims, j-bend hubs, removeable decals, priced from $1999 per set;
Squad 12 K - matte 12K rims, straight pull hubs, painted decals, priced from $2399 per set;
Silver Line - UD superlight rims, straight pull ceramic hubs, painted decals, priced from $2799 per set.
- 4 depth options: 25, 42, 58 and 75 mm...so that gives you tons of options based on riding style and your clincher vs tubular preference [75mm is clincher only though].
