Well the project is at the begining.

The frame is a 1992 Trek 8900. I has carbon tubes boned into alloy bits. I have weighed the frame at 1737g with steel m5 nuts on the water bottle cage studs and the seat collar which is an odd size so I can't change it. I have on there way Ti canti bosses and have fitted alloy M5 nuts in place of the steel ones. The seat Q/R has been replaced by am M8 steel bolt saving 28g.

The build spec will be
PMP 26.8 TI post with coke can shim 191g
Sella Italia SLR XP saddle -185g I hope it survives XC riding.
Ti stem - have not sourced yet - eyeing a few 130g
Ti flat bars have not bought yet but eying a few -150g
No name cantilever brakes 344g with alloy mounting bolts and shimano link wire. I am on the hunt for lighter pad holder and the stud holders Ti again. SRP did some.
Rear wheel 28H X517 rim M950 hub sapim race spokes and alloy nipples -870g
Front wheel 28H X517 rim M950 front hub sapim race spoke and alloy nipples 690g
Conti X-king supersonic tyres 811g
Michelin Latex tubes 251g
Rim tape 24g
KMC 8-93 chain
Shimano M730 chainset with middleburn rings 24/34/46 170mm and alloy bolts 672g
Ti crank bolts 17g
Shimano M730 BB -320g but I have my eye on a Ti BB which is 170g.
XTR M950 medium cage rear mech 200g with alloy pivot bolt and alloy barrel adjuster
XTR M950 front mech 34.9 top pull 108g with alloy mounting bolt.
Cable stop 11g
Pace RC31 fork -777g I might be able to cut the steerer a bit and I have Ti canti bosses which will save some more weight.
Token headset 1 1/8" 117g with alloy top bolt
headset spacer will be carbon and I will use 10mm perhaps.
XT M737 shifters/brake levers 381g
Shiman0 HG50 12-25T casette with alloy lockring 304g but I want a cycledynamics Ti cassette.
Ti bottle cages -56g
XT M780 pedal 340g
Cables I have not weighed yet. Might go for Nokon but I will probably stick with standard transfil with jagwire alloy ferrules.

I expect the weight of the build to be 9.3-9.4kg but I get the Ti BB it will be less. I would be nice to get the build down to less than 9 kg but I might struggle there as I want to keep it a bit retro but weight weenie.

I have all the parts apart from the bars stem and canti bosses and I am still looking for Ti pad holders and stud holds.

Thanks, it is a little further on but I have hit a snag the M950 rear mech I have is sloppy so that is not happening. I have pulled a M735 mech out of the box of bits and will put that on, heavy though but I have put a M950 cassette on the wheels now that saves alot of weight to offset the heavier mech.

Still got to buy the Ti bar and stem and that is the main hold up now.

Found two steel bolts holding the rear cable stop bridge in place. Replaced those with alloy bolts. The M5 bolts holding the canti boss mounts in place seem seized shame as I would have replace those with Ti bolts. Oh an I fitted the SLR today that was a pain as the M7 bolt (what an odd size) in the front part of the clamp was too long (screws down from the top like a Deda RSX01 post or cannondale post) to allow the seat to level. Had to shorten the bolt but the shorter bolt did not have enough thread left on it a it was only a part threaded bolt. I used one of the other M7 bolts I had which is fully threaded and had to shorten that and bevel the hex nut so it sit properly in the clamp. what a faff just to fit a seat.

Found the stem I an going to use just need to pay for it now and bars hopefully will be won tonight.

Predicted weight now about 9.35kg.

Seat post skewer 35g
hub skewers 119g
Bottle cages 56g
cable stop hanger 25g
Total ready to ride 9256g

Luggage scale show 9.46 kg ready to ride

Future changes
1)Ti BB
2) ti canti studs but I need unusual threadings
3) ti canti stud holders
4) light weight pads perfect Kool stop thinline's
5) XTR M950 rear mech when I find a good one tuned
6) ti spindles for the pedals (I am sure I have seen some)
7) Middleburn RS7 chainset but I really like the M730 one one there at present.
8) tubeless set up but I am not sure if X-king tyres will seal well against X517 rims.
I suppose with all of the above I will save another 400g or so but I will be alot poorer too. Not sure if it is worth it.

It feels good the saddle to handle bar drop is more than I used to but it will be fine. Now I have just got to ride it.
