New project that started with a "gas pipe" frame, but I bought this frame last month, now it seems like it will end up as a not-too-heavy winter/commuter ride.

Frame: Unknown (seller told me it was a "prototype" Kona cyclocross), unknown auminium alloy. 1269 g with hanger
Fork: HongFu FH-FO005. advertised at 515 g uncut
Headset: Ritchey Pro CX. 95 g
Handlebars: Bontrager Race lite VR. 240 g
Stem: Ritchey WCS alloy 120 mm. 130 g
Cross brake levers : Cane Creek. 90 g
Shifters: Sram Rival: 325 g
Seatpost: Ritchey WCS V2. 210 g
Seat collar: KCNC. 15 g
Saddle: San Marco Aspide ti. 170 g
Brakes: Tektro CR720. 250 g
FD : Sram Apex braze-on with KCNC clamp : 100 g
RD : Sram Rival. 180 g
Chain: KMC X10SL silver. 245 g
Crankset: Shimano FC-R700 34-50t. 850 g (with Shimano BB)
Wheels: Kinlin XR270 / Sapim CX-ray 28/28 / Shimano Ultegra 6600 (tires and tubes to determin soon). 2450 g
Cassette: Ultegra 6700 11-23. 210 g
Pedals: Crank Brothers Candy SL. 300 g
Bottle Cages: Tacx Tao light. 30 g X 2
Cables and housings: 250 g

TOTAL: Roughly predicted 7.9 kg, so should end up around 8 kg. Maybe more if I finally decide to install some fenders on it.

did I forget something ?

Now the build is starting, the frame has (had) a nice matte finish:

Untill I rubbed a little acetone on the chainstay to install a protector. The matte finish is peeling off  !!!

So, it will end up as a black, shiny bike  ...

Pics to come as I gather the parts progressively...

Louis :)

I knew I forgot something...

I'll have to check if the zillion skewers I already have can fit on a 135 mm rear with thick alu dropouts.

Or I'll go KCNC Z6 mountain, or something like that...

EDIT: I had a reply form the seller, a bike shop in Toronto, CAN. He said the frame was a prototype from Kona made from Easton tubing (he didn't know the alloy though).
My take is it's an unfinished prototype. The finish is likely a primer, and they never applied either clear, or some paint to finish the project.

LOuis :)

I rubbed acetone all over the frame, to take off the "finish".

Under, there's kind of a shiny, black base coat. Not as nice as a finish paint, but I was expecting worse.

I'm happy with the frame. It appears to be pretty well made. The welds are nice and even, not one messy spot.

So, I'm starting the building back, gathering parts as they come...
