Hi guys. Found this site while googling some info to make a light wheelset. Good to be here! Was hoping I could get some help on a single gear build I'm doing. I know I'm not going to get the lightest bike, but I'm trying to get as light as I can while still maintaining the look, which I don't want to sacrifice. It's going to have old school charm. The frame is lugged steel that I will do a custom paint job on (I restore cars). But for the components, no carbon, just aluminum or similar. It will be used exclusively on the roads, no track. 1 inch threaded fork.
So, any help filling in the holes, or suggestions for other parts? Would prefer to buy new stuff, but I will be scouring Ebay for NOS stuff at good prices. Don't want to spend more than $1500, so there's still plenty of room to play with. Cheers!

Of you look at the last posting in the above thread I posted my new toy. Gearing is subject to you. If going fixed gear verses a single speed I would suggest 165mm cranks since you have to pedal on turns and less of a chance of pedal strike. Since I train and use mine as a townie commuter bike I use mtb pedals since the shoes are very good for waking when not on the bike.

So ask away and please post pictures of your project!

Pedals are one of the things I'm actually wondering about for this build. I'm coming from a road background (since getting laid off, I'll ride 50 to 100 miles a day because it's fun) and love clipless, but I wonder, for the aesthetic effect of this bike, if I should get more traditional pedals with leather straps, or cheat there and switch over my SPDs. And I also am of a dilemna now for the fork. I was going to use my 1 inch threaded from my old Peugeot, but upon inspection, it's bent. So I wonder if I go with the threadless fork in comes with or buy a threaded fork. Threadless kind of kills the look, but would save me money.
Frame is on the way, I'll definitely keep you guys updated on the build and weight as I go.

The good thing is pedals can be easily changed so swapping around depending what you are doing that ride.

While I'm a bit biased I think I would watch Ebay and the fork and a good price on a threaded steel fork will eventually pop up. Or post an ad in the wanted section since you never know what the members on here might have in a dark and dusty corner of the garage.
