It was not that long ago that I posted a 54cm Cervelo R3 Mud, I wrote that what I really wanted was a 51cm which is a better size for me. It is my understanding that last year they did not make any 51cm frames for the classic races but this year we saw Raymond Kreder on a 51cm. I made some phone calls and did some pleading. I even told them I would be happy with one if it was ridden hard and all scratched up. Just throw it in a box and I will have it repainted.

As it turns out they had a new in box frameset that was not used this year, I suspect it was an extra that was not needed. I never seem to get the whole story but the internet gods must have looked favorably on me because here you have it, a 51cm in this year’s color.

I built this one up on a Lightweight Gen III wheelset and Challenge Paris Roubaix Tubular 27mm tires. They have a nice ride but are not as big as I would like. There is still plenty of room for a bigger tire. Carbonsports Lightweight recommends only using standard tubular wheelsets for gravel roads. They recommend tires no larger than 27mm. I will try some 28mm tires on the new Gen IV wheels and see how they fit. I think 28mm would really be better for me. The Gen IV are supposed to be just a little wider at the braking surface and might hold a 28mm tire a little better.

Wow, I'm not particularly a fan of cervelos but this is absolutely an exception. Cheers for a job well done.

I'm impressed at your tenacity in getting what you want!
So who did you call up? How did you make this happen? (No need to mention price, I'm just asking about the method)

It's a better color than the 54s IMO, but the best thing about it is that it uses the latest, current Cervelo hanger instead of that skinny toothpick of one.

If you still have the 54cm, I might be interested in it. Just let me know.

Otherwise, that looks exceptional. A very nice build.

The fact that Garmin was willing to sell a new Classics fram, which are typically reused year after year, makes me wonder if they will still be riding Cervelo next season. Or maybe Cervelo just has something even sweeter in the pipe line for net year.

Gorgeous is an understatement. You MUST post up a picture of the full stable.

good lord thats perfect. I'd kill for those wheels, they're worth more than my entire bike, yet my bike is .25lbs more than yours. Very well done.

I'm guessing whole new R3/R5 based on RCA. So I wouldn't be surprised
