A couple things, I am 16 years old, I race Cat 1 cross country in the US. This is my first carbon "real" weenie bike.

I work at a shop, so many of the parts are what I can find laying around. I don't have a ton of income, and my parents gave up paying for my bikes a few years ago, so when I buy things, I like to make it worth my money (I try not to buy mediocre parts.)

The build was meant to be as light as possible while still be race-worthy.

I got a scale after I already had the bike built up, so I don't have a full build list, but I weighed as many parts as I could

Would love some feedback on the build, Obviously there are some parts that should be upgraded, suggestions on what to replace are welcome.

I love the 1*9 set up, my local terrain is relatively flat, and when I am travelling, I am usually racing, so gearing is no problem.

Very excellent build even though you're working with a tight budget. Great choice in brakes, you could go lighter but the XTR performance is worth the penalty. About the only thing I would jump on right away is the bars. They are pretty heavy compared to a nice set of Easton carbon bars.

I certainly agree that the xtr brakes were a function choice. One finger braking is flawless, and with lightweight rotors they don't have a huge weight penalty. The bars obviously need to be replaced with something carbon. Weighing my options for flat bars 700mm or wider.

Sounds like an awesome build. Would love to see a picture of it. I personally love my XTR race brakes and they were considerably lighter than the Avid CR carbon's I took off.

I won't say much about the tires since you're a Cat 1 racer. I assume you have other tires for different terrain. I tried the Freds and really liked them in the summer when things are dried out but since I'm running rigid I found that I ended up just running my Maxxis Ikons most of the time and have a set of Bronson's on my other wheels.

Nice looking bike.

Stand out overweight is the bars, however the seatpost is pretty lardy and the stem not really 'race extra light' light, as the Bonti's sell well used you could get a cheaper lighter forged stem and break even on the sale. Wheel weight looks 'very' light......

My MTB is a daily rider*, like your brakes I don't compromise in key areas just for weight, like yours mine is built on a budget and a lot of savings I've made have come from just weighing bits I come across and seeing if they are lighter than what I have or not!

*Reminds me I should post it up, just under 11Kg now still on wire bead tyres.
