Just built up Bianchi D2 chrono. Have always wanted a Bianchi and this frame came cheap so.... Parts have been chosen for several reasons
1. To avoid any shimano/campag/sram
2. Aesthetics
3. Weight

Total cost in the end came under $2000 using existing wheels and tyres, with total weight 7.5kg

This is the way to go to avoid Shimano/Campagnolo/Sram.

I would seriously consider posting this bike in the freaks topic.

Agreed, that's a genuinely different build. And I'm 99% sure your saddle is off to the right.

Sweet jeebus that is fugly. You must have gotten carried away with how to avoid shimano, campag and sram that you forgot about the aesthetics.

I had the mektronic system in 1999. It worked great for a year. Then it died. It was warrantied and I got a new one- that one never worked right and I ditched it. Nice to see some of the ones that worked are still around!

Just curious. Why avoid Shimano/Campag/SRAM?

This is awesome, but I feel something is missing. Aerobars, perhaps?

I like it for its uniqueness.

Anyway, how do you like those cranks?

Ok, the build seemed to generate a mixed bag of comments. The mektronic is great when it works, I have 4 sets, 2 of which work and they work great, I always carry spare batteries, but never had a problem with the two functioning systems, the other two however.... The cranks are great, but a actually do not tell a difference from regular cranks, but they look great and match the white accents on the bike (brakes/headset/bars/stem)
Why avoid the Shim/campag/sram - once I started the build and realised that with just a few parts to go I had none from the big 3, it just made the build fairly unique
The cost - I already had the wheels and the mektronic set so most of the funds just went on the frame/cranks and brakes, with careful shopping and picking things up on sale, I just barely made the $2000 budget
Freak/Fugly comments - To each their own, I wanted a unique build, I think I succeeded.
