I was debating selling this bike but something told me to keep it and rebuild it in a weight weenie theme. I have no idea where this will end up but my last builds were so much fun i would post another one. The frame and fork is a 2010 Masi Speciale fixed Limited.
Its built with Reynolds 525 Steel and is very stiff and responsive. I actually love the road geometry vs track geometry and I like having brakes for those just in case( saved my rear more then once) occasions.

I had put it together before with left over parts and the cheap wheels and it came in at just under 20 pounds 9080 grams!!!

Here it was before

The main thing I am considering is keeping the steel fork. I was considering a carbon fork and it would be a Reynolds Quozo thats on my Lynskey. I think its around the 400-450g range and it has a grey stripe which would match perfectly.

Go for it!

If that is the frame I'm thinking of, it's definitely going to weigh you down.

Fork and wheels will be the main offenders. A TA chainring might also save a few g for not a lot of $.

100% keep the fork. Replace everything else.

I tore everything down and I had some really heavy stuff on there. Ill post all of the weights when I have more time. But the main thing is the weight of the frame and fork. Good grief! Is steel supposed to be this heavy?

Is this normal for steel?

Hi-end steel would be lighter. About 1500-1600gr for the frame and 600-700gr for the fork. Keep the frame and fork and do not spend a lot of money on this project IMHO.

Even though the frame-set weighs a lot, you can still get this thing pretty light.
In my signature there is a link for my weight weenie fixed gear build, check it out for some inspiration?

Very normal for steel. My new steel forks weight in at ~800g. Ligheter ios possible but it starts to cost.

I have thought about ditching this build but at the end of the day I really like this frameset, I like the way it rides and the overall performance. Im trying not to spend alot on this build and maybe have it around 17 pounds with the steel fork.

Here is the crank that was on it

Cheap way to save some grams;
I'm assuming those are steel chainring bolts, *Get some alloy.

I know, but I wanted gold ones to match the brazing, 17 dollars plus freight, ouch. I may just do it since it will match the headset and chain I am ordering.

I could save some major weight in wheels but im not trying to spend the monet though. I will probably build a pair if linlin xr270's with Novatec 20/24 track hubs. Seems to be the cheapest weenie option

If you are located in the USA,
I would recommend Velocity rims vs Kinlin. The A23 is a good 25 grams lighter and they are great quality. Similar price as well.
You could save another 35grams per rim by switching to escape tubulars :D

Awesome info, Thanks a bunch. How are you liking the tubular set up. Im a little hesitant in going tubular. Afraid of expensive flats. Are your front hubs regular road hubs vs track hubs?

Its been a while since I have worked on this build. This is probably my slowest build ever lol. Its kind of fun taking my time and really looking at different options. I have come to appreciate the classic design of the frame and fork. i must say I have missed riding it and cant wait to give it a spin when its done.

Here are some updates

Old genaric seatpost

New Turner seat post Uncut, I did trim 60mm off of the post, net weight eneded up at 188 grams

Looking good, can't wait to see the finished product :)
I only train on days that end with "y".

This has been the slowest build I have ever done! But I did finish it the other day. I took some quick shots with my cell phone. I would have rode it but the seat collar pin broke and I haven't sourced one yet. But here she is

Weight thus far is 17lbs 12oz.

But the chain and brakes are from the old build and will be changed.
