Hello everyone,

Got this frame set in screaming yellow (size XL - 58). Weight is a little bit disappointing since Lapierre claims a frame weight of 850 gr. for a medium size (52). Well, I expected it to be under 1 kg. And they claim it to be the lightest Xelius ever - which can't be true since I've seen older Xelius frames showing similar figures in this forum.

Frame: 1170 gr.
Fork: 332 gr.

It will be difficult to hit 6,5 kg including a Garmin Vector 2 powermeter and my Zipp 404 clinchers. Let me know if you have any recommendations for nice parts. I am thinking to wait on the Sram Red Etap.

Cheers!

If you want to get to your weight goal at all costs, you could get a finishing kit from Ax Lightness or MCFK. They both offer seatposts, saddles, stems and bars, and you can easily save 200 grams with these over lightweight stuff from the mainstream brands, like 3T or Ritchey.

Love the yellow! Shame about Lapierre low balling the weight though.

1170 grams on a frame claimed to weigh 850 grams? And the claimed is on a smaller size. 1170 / 850 = 1.376 That is 37.6% more? I can sort of understand claiming 1000 grams and its really 1050 grams. 5% over. Or maybe even 1000 claimed and its really 1100. 10% over. But 37.6% over? Not only is that not in the same ballpark, that is not even in the parking lot surrounding the ballpark. That is a couple miles from the ballpark.

850 for size M, XL would be maybe 100 grams more? That would make it 950 or so. The difference would be smaller than 37,6%, but still unacceptable imho.

I am guessing they must have to layer on the white to get that bright yellow. 300g of paint?

My thinking was not working right when I wrote this. 850 for a Medium does mean the larger XL would weigh more. Had that backwards.

When I got in contact with Lapierre they mentioned the Xelius SL Ultimate frame weighs round about 950 gr. in size XL. Well, I am very suprised that my frame weighs more than 200 gr. more. I've sent Lapierre a message last night to comment on this.

I am not totally focussed on weight but the frame kit wasn't cheap either. And again, they claim it to be the lightest Xelius ever. I'll let you know what the answer is.

But yeah, I think it is a bad ass looking frame kit.

looks great and weight better than a colnago c60 or 59 so i'd say 6.5 kg will be OK with one or two tweaks along the way. what's the weight of zipp's? this will be the major determinant of success re: your weight goals. lots of weight to be saved if getting involved in lighter brakes, bar, stem and seatpost and also pedals (keywin for example at 161 g). don't go light skinny tyre route though (cheapest way to achieve weight goals but not good re: comfort which is more important).

You can use that funky seat-tube and down-tube junction as a place to store your raincoat. Very clever of Lapierre to think of that.

hmm, don't see any problem hitting 6,5kg with that. I got almost the same frame/fork weights and building a 6,5kg bike with discbrakes that are much heavier then rimbrakes.

I would like to get the Sram Red Etap group for this frame. Which version do I need (BB30 or GXP) and which bottom bracket? I have no clue.

I believe the Xelius uses a BB86 bottom bracket so you would need their pressfit bottom bracket

Hi Morta ,,did you get explanation from Lapierre why frame and fork were at weights above what they are promoting. I'm looking at same frame /fork (52cm) but not if frame sitting above 1kilo,,
thanks
