Changing out the saddle, seatpost and bars for more exotic parts could maybe get you down to 18.5. Maybe switch the pedals to speedplay or Eggbeater 4ti?

29ers are awesome! I have one (haven't posted it though) and its my favorite mountain bike 8)
I like your build, but I prefer gears. 1x10 is nice.

I prolly build it as a 1x10, what do you guys think? Sram XX or X0, XTR? I would be keep the lighting crank and formula brakes. Maybe a different frame?

I have X0 on my bike, with a short cage rear derailleur.
XX1 does look interesting, but I wonder which wheels aren't compatible.
36x10, with a 36x42 would be an interesting combo... 8)
How do you like the Fast Traks?
