An Old Baum Corretto - Operation Climbing Bike
Moderators: MrCurrieinahurry, maxim809, Moderator Team
A new (to me) addition to the stable. Crappy Iphone Pic (hasnt been ridden yet)
An old Baum Corretto with Carbon Rear end. Purpose is to be a climbing bike and a bike I can travel/ride with (compact frame size helps with that), no nonsense wheels. Eff TT is 56.5cm.
Items of note:
Will keep the Fulcrum Zeroes on her, have ordered a larger compact crank, have ordered a longer 3t stem (which will remain flipped unfortunately - this bike was custom made for somebody else), a couple of King Ti cages will be needed without doubt, will also install my spare compact Zipp carbon SL Hbar. Will need a Selle Smp Dynamic saddle at some point before I can log any serious time on the saddle with her.
Before she is ready to go I'd love some suggestions/recommendations. Things like : 1. Seatpost change?, Tyres - Go to good old Black?, Do I attempt a Blue Saddle (which Selle Smp do) and some blue leather bar tape (maybe with white stitching?) ? Stick to Black saddle/bar tape combo?
Basic Build List:
Frame = Baum Corretto (Ti) with Carbon Rear Stays (by Time I think)
Components = 2012 Campy SR 11 53/39 172.5 crank (50/34 175 on its way)
Pedals= Speedplay Zero Ti Grey
Stem=3t ARX Stealth 100mm 6deg (120mm on its way)
Handlebar=Alloy Zipp - not sure which (Carbon Zipp SLC2 Short and Shallow waiting)
Bar Tape= Basic Black 3T
Saddle= Fizik Black - no sure which (Selle Smp Dynamic at some point)
Wheelset= Fulcrum Racing Zero Clincher

That is a really lovely bike!
Not sure how well blue tape or saddle will come off. Personal choice though.
Tan sidewalled tyres would look good.
Thinking climbing bike, perhaps at least the carbon railed version of the Selle saddle (Crb model) to save a couple of extra grams.
Wouldn't save you any weight but the silver finish Thomson seatpost/stem would look pretty cool...
Stick up some larger photos and perhaps a build list too.

Cheers. Tan wheels is an interesting thought. Do recall liking the Veloflex masters on a bike I saw at acfe a couple weeks back.
Yeah - blue saddle/tape could either work really well or really poorly.
Some better pics will come once I have had a chance to clean her up, replace some of the parts etc

I think its the black/stealth stem (no large angled Logo) coupled with a significant TT drop of 7.7 degrees
Not sure if this will still hold true with a longer 120mm (will further accentuate to 23.5 degrees with a HT angle of 72.5 deg) but hey its purpose is to climb not win a beauty concept, got other bikes for that.

Have ordered the Black Selle SMP Dyanmic Seat. Will leave teh black tape. Get my weight scale next week or so, so hope to have a weight soon.
I have never liked white tyres but don think they look too bad in this case. What are peoples thoughts re: going to black or maybe Tan tyres?

Black always works. Tan sometimes turns a nice bike into something special.
In any case, probably best selecting the tyres based on performance criteria?

The bike is beautiful. Nice catch.
If you are focused on climbing then there are some cost effective ways to reduce weight from that picture provided.
-Quick releases - KCNC, Tune, whatever the budget allows. Those Fulcrum/Campy skewers are nice, but portly.
-Cables/housing - something light, Nokon, iLinks, etc.
-Bolt tuning
-Cages (inexpensive and light = Blackburn Slick or there's more expensive lightweight models/brands dependign on budget)
-Tires/tubes - the Veloflex masters suggested in the thread really are light and roll exceptionally well. Paired with some latex tubes - Butter...
-Brakes - the Campy brakes are awesome, but there is lighter to be found out there if you do not need absolute stopping power.
Also have you considered a light carbon bar?
Beyond that you could go with a lightweight cassette to drop a bunch of grams, but shifting quality suffers.

That looks positively terrible with the stem turned up. Not unlike your less than attractive face.

It is.
I know, as I rode it!

TP - are you the person I blame for it not having more Headtube?
Pretty sure one of your bikes was in the workship when I ordered my custom Baum.

Nope. But that bike was a damn good fit. And excellent on long rides.
How long ago? My Corretto was in there around this time last year.
