Ok, I need some help.

Basically I have a Giant MCM Team MTB that I want to make it to a road set-up (2 front x 9 rear), and so I recently bought a BTP Campy Record front derailleur from an online store, which they confirmed it was totally workable according to my situation. My rear derailleur is XTR shadow 2009 (9spd).

Now interestingly the LBS guy said to me today that there's NO WAY that a road bike front derailleur (i.e. Campy Record) can be mounted on a MTB frame since a road bike derailleur has all wiring pulling from below (not like MTB which has the front derailleur cable pulled from above). Yet, I have seen people putting Campy derailleurs on their Scott Scale, Litespeed Obed etc.

So I just want some clarification on this as I bet my LBS guy is wrong yet I have not ridden a road bike before.

Thanks!!!

Welcome to weight weenies. Your guy at the LBS don't know what he is talking about. You can use a speen adaptor to convert down pull front derailleur to up pull. Road front derailleurs work fine in mountain bikes. You can even run 3 rings front and still use most of the regular road front derailleurs with a little bit of modification.

EDIT: By the way, my MTB frame has cable routing in down tube so no adapters needed...

That indeed looks very intersting. What modification do you need to make a 2 ring road FD work with a 3 ring MTB crank?

as mentioned in post #2 it is a Speen adapter.

Get it here (bottom right for Campy): http://www.speen.de/speen*_en/speen__store.html

The issue is more the geometry of the adapter. It took a couple of tries to get it just right...

some fd of campagnolo can be tuned :

the ones with no rivets can be worked , disassembled and riassembled turning upside down the cable arm

so can be used in top pull with no adapter

Babelfish! :P

Does anyone have a list of possible triple derailleurs (braze on)?
Would like to give this a try! :)
