I'm about to order a Palomino XX from my LBS, most of my buddies are riding the Fuel 100 and i'd like to be able to crank the pounds down a bit to make the bike comparable in weight.
It'll be stock from the factory and according to this site the frame/shock combo is 187g's heavier than the fuel, and the fork is 365g's heavier (not counting the sid wc's lockout lever).

I'm looking for absolute best bang for the buck upgrades to cut weight but still make a reliable race rig.

any help is appreciated here.

don.

I tried to get one..but they don't sell them in North America

To Quote:
"Unfortunately the bike line is not carried the North America. The bikes
are only available in Europe.
Wish we could help but we have not brought bikes in the US for years."

so even if i could get one (mailorder) i'd be afraid of bike warranty issues and getting them looked after.

so, back to the klein.

I'm from New Brunswick Canada...i'd be afraid of the shipping/duties levied against something like that.
+ i race for our local shop...and that equals low purchase prices on what they carry, and that's good too.

i've got some leftover (my old ride was stolen...so the ins check is what i'm buying with).
I'd like to know what's the first things that should go to reduce most weight, i can deal with cost as a secondary factor.

btw. thanks

Hi Guys!

As I also own a Klein Palomino (03) I'd like to know if anybody has the weight of the whole wheels (f/r)? I got the Klein Death Grip tyres and Bontrager hubs/rims, the hubs are ready for discs. sorry, ain't got any balance (is this the english word for waage?) to do it myself!

The Scott's will be available in the US a bit later this summer. I talked to my LBS yesterday and they are going to be stocking both the MTB line and the road line.

If you want I can find out when they expect to be getting them.

About the Palomino seatpost...I'm a believer in carbon posts, but if you look at the angle of the seatpost, there is no way that I would really want to put that kind of stress on a carbon post that will snap instead of bending. Get something light but reliable like a thompson masterpiece, or a light alu easton.

My Oppinion...

Tyers: Dependant on Condtions, Racing Ralfs or Hutchy Python/Scopion/Spider Airlites, Somthing around 400g to 500g (or lighter if your game)

Saddle: SLR, or prefered

Grips: Pork Rinds, or Extralite Neo's

Seatpost: USE Alien Ti (abit heavier, but it's not going to snap)

Stem possibly: Syntace F99 w/ Ti bolts

Other things to consider:
Bars:The Bontrager's to many have an awfull shape (well the risers do), I'd go Easton carbon EC70 or EC90. (you will need to change the Bonti stem).

Crankset/BB: I know you want to keep the XTR Groupset, But you could save near 100 grams By changing the cranks and BB to

Arms: Next LP 405g
Rings: Sugino: 135g
Chainring Bolts: FSA Alloy T30 16g
BB: FRM ISIS 140g
Crank Bolts: 18g
Total = 714g

Heaviest XTR is listed at 809g and Averages 798/799g + The Next's are cheaper and eisier to get rings for (Sugino). Using this set up you could run compact (20 or 22t granny), and Use a DuraAce 12/27 cassette (more savings, upto 50 or 60g)... Doesn't look as sleek as XTR though :(

Food for thought...
