let me create a scenario for you. I'm building a singlespeed, and I'm building my own wheels. I'm going to use the new DT hubs with the shimano disc splines, but if possbile I'd like to avoid using shimano brakes (preferably Hopes) so, the question is does hope make discs compatible with this system? Can I use discs from another manufacturer that are compatible with hope calipers?

You'll just need brakes compatible with 160mm Shimano '04 XT or '03 XTR rotors, that's all.

I'm aware that you're not keen on Shimano brakes (why?) - but you could consider XTR calipers with XT levers for your singlespeed.

I'm sure Hope used to make some splined discs. Even if they didn't I'm sure they could sort you out with something as they do custom rotors anyway. Worth a shot.
.....but it still has to work!
