i know this sound crazy. i need to modify 3 speed XTR left shifter to the 2 speed coz im using 2 gear drive-train. Any expert modifying mechanics here? and also, i got alot of problem with xtr shifters. when going rough downhill, the shifter shift down by itself automatically and a result of chain sucks.

If you're using a standard chainset and just dropping the granny ring you can just adjust the lower limit on your front mech and avoid changing into bottom on the shifter. No modifications necessary.
.....but it still has to work!

Im riding this 2 x 9 setup for about 3 years now, and it works flawlessly!
With Shimano and with Sram.
