Hi,
here are two questions for the pro's:

First:
I would like to modify my XTR 2002 SGS rear derailleur to a XTR 2002 GS rear derailleur. Meaning long cage (SGS) to short cage (GS).

Well the question is, is it enough to switch the two sideplates?
(Costing 29 €)
OR
are there any other differences on the GS derailleur too?
Meaning I have to buy a full new derailleur.
(Costing 80 €) :?

Picture can be seen here:

And a second Question is:
I would like to drill some holes in the XTR-pulleys beneath the tooth. How big can these holes be, without loosing stability/stiffness meaning function.
I heard about 3mm....

Personaly I think nino's deore-pulleys are way too shaved  no offense.

If you accidently had to, could your bike take a smaller downhill ?

No, for me there aren't other differences between two derailleurs.
Perhaps 3 mm are enough.

I'll second that.
Look here at my mech with drilled jockey wheels. Also, I've since found that that XT jockeys weigh 19g, and XTR weigh 21g.

Thanx for the answers.

I think I'll start with 1mm then 2mm then 2,5mm then perhaps 3mm
And then just try to find out what looks best. 3mm looks like a bit much to me.

I once saw a picture on the MTBR.com forum with someone who had an aluminium-pulley with holes worn down, so I know what to look for when drilling.
