Firstly a big hello to everyone, stumbled on this excellant website and am now hooked.

I have a 2001 Trek 8500 and would like to shave some weight of it and was wondering if anyone can recommend anything to do.

I am replacing the current SID XC 1436g
with a PACE RC31 Carbon Rigid Fork 695g saving 741g

And the seat post Bontrager Race 275g
with a USE Alein Carbon 143g saving 132g

And the tyres bontrager super x kevlar f519 r 559
with Continental Twister Supersonic 370g same front and rear saving 338g

These small things will save 2.66lbs or 1211g I have already changed the seat for a flight titanium translap.

So any ideas not sure what the weight of the bike is to start with prob around 23.5lbs, would like to get below 20lbs

Thanks

Paul

...if you're going to be using it mainly as a road bike, why not use a road frame and wheels?

Then you could keep the Trek with suspension for any off-roading. Otherwise you have to compromise on weight/efficiency when you're on the tarmac and comfort/control when you're on the dirt.

Just an idea.

is an idea but dont think using road wheels and frame would stand up to bunny hops and drop offs

yeah i live on a building site! No seriously you know little drop offs like 3 or 4 high stairs nothing massive, but something you would'nt do on a road bike if you see what I mean. When I said mainly road use I should have said I also go on little dirts trails aswell this take out the option of a road bike.

Thanks
