Since my Ryde Trace 22 (650B/ 27.5') rims got out of true rather quickly, i realize i have two options.
Either go carbon which cost alot more, or go alu and ask advice here.

80Kg rider riding mostly gravel, mtb trails and some routes are very stony terrain.
Yes, i like to jump with my bike.

So question is, what alu rims should i use for this?

Mostly look to use 1.9 - 2.1 tires.
I would prefer an internal width of maximum 24mm due to clearance to chainstays with to wide rims.

Thanks

You should not assemble 1.9" tire to 24mm wide rim. On the other hand I would recommend 2,2-2,25" tires for the rocky terrain you ride. Carbon rims are stronger and last longer trued. The good and quality spokes (like Sapim CX Ray) are recommended. Lightweight aluminum rims are not as rigid and come out of true more easily.

Why not a 1.9' tire to a 24mm rim? You mean it could blow off?
Btw, my bike couldn't handle over 2.1 tires. It's not a mtb bike, it's a gravel bike.

Well if you cant mount a 1.9" tyre on a 24mm rim us roadies are in trouble.

Rims for the op.

Dt swiss xm481, kinlin tl23, velocity blunt ss and all tried and tested. The ryde trace trail 25 works well for me but tubeless tyres dont alway mount.

What concerns me more talking rims width is, there is no real facts on how much tire size "increase" along with going wider on the rims.
I have asked a few companies and it seems some tires are designed with wider rims and some with narrower.
Also pending on the side wall stiffness of each tire.
I read somewhere that for each mm rim width increase, tire size increase 0.4mm.
So + 2mm rims width is approx 0.8-1.0mm.

Schwalbe always seem to "bulb" out more than anything else...

ETRTO mountain tire widths are measured at something like 40 psi (or maybe it is the max pressure the tire is designed to). If you put the tire on a wider rim, the geometry says it will be bigger, but you're going to use a lower pressure so the casing doesn't stretch as much. Different casings balloon to different sizes. The only way to tell for sure is to experiment.

For sure i would not cry if the frame accepted that tires swell out more. Thing is, the rear of the bike is what is the limit for tires width.

1. I am speaking about 24mm inner rim width.
2. When you mount a narrow tire to a wider rim than recomended, the tire profile will not be ideal. I mean the tread of the tire will not be round but it will be more flat. You would not want to ride tyres with squared profile, wouldn´t you? :)

That all depends on the bead to bead distance of the tyre. but since roadies mamange to mount 25mm tyres to 20 mm internal width rims and get a nice round profile the rim would have to very wide and the tyre very narrow to get the squuring off you mention. i have not noticed with any of the tyre combo's I have tried.

If you check the ratios between tire width and rims width it would make a lot of sense with wider rims.
Also, the tire have a lot more surface to take stance against.
I just can't see how my 700C wheels/rims with 21.6mm internal width (used tires from 30-43mm width) should have almost same width as a mtb rim.
None of the 700C tires are anything but round. So i don't really see why it should be differnt with mtb tires on wider rims?
