Yes, another shoe thread.

I'm currently riding Giro Empire VR90s. Getting some heel slip, and the uppers seem to stretch out quite a bit when they get some moisture and heat in them. Being lace-ups, there is, obviously, no quick and easy way to adjust that.

Additionally, they are showing some pretty serious signs of wear after only 7 months of ownership, and only 4-5 months of outdoor use. The heel on both shoes is starting to separate from the upper, and the rubber toe guard on one shoe is coming off as well. Overall, not very impressed with them.

So, I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations for new shoes. Call me vain, but I hate the look of black shoes.

-I'd prefer a BOA system that can be adjusted on the fly.

-Durable

-Wider forefoot, narrow heel, if possible.

-Did I say durable? Yes, durable, please.

-Not black.

I had a quick look through the Pearl Izumi site. There's a couple of BOA models there.

Same as your requirements; narrow heel, with a widish front.

Lake has the perfect front, but not the heel.

PI does the trick for me.
Almost as wide at the front as Lake. Wider front than Shimano.
PI mtb shoes have a fairly tall and supportive/narrow-enough heel cup.
Curve Grovel ti.

I love my boat Vaypor G-
Super stiff, Boa, wide toe box- But you would have to special order colors or white?

I also like the fact that they fit exactly like my road Bonts.

Try emailing photos to giro I had the same problem and they sent me a label to send them the old shoes and they sent out new ones. I think they had a bad batch of glue or something that was causing the problem. I've had 4 sets of empires between road and mtb and only one has had the problem.

Maybe mavic? Feel like they have a wider forefoot. Specialized has some not black options these days too.

I ended up doing that. They sent me a new set of blue VR90s, which I have listed in the "For Sale" section here.

Nice shoes, they just don't fit me quite as well as I'd like. I have some Pearl Izumi X-Project Pro limited edition shoes now, which fit better, but still not perfect. They actually have the opposite problem. They have so much room in the forefoot that I can feel my foot moving around; I think the problem is too much overall volume. I have a wide, yet low volume forefoot. Still, an improvement, and they're good enough for now.

I'd love to find the 2017s with the white toes/forefoot.

The 2018s aren't exactly my cup of tea, from an aesthetic perspective.

I find the newer s works shoes tiny in the toes area. the older models had miles more room, perfect even on 12hr epic rides.
