Put them in the oven and bake them.

I used Mike one-speed's method and it worked:

"I baked my Formula pads after fluid contamination with excellent results. Simply place the pads pad-side-up on a cookie sheet, cook at 400F for ~20 minutes. Be sure to open the windows and crank-up the fan, because it will get smokey"

I'm not sure if soft are heavier than hard compound though soft would loose their weight quicker.

What is wrong with your bike?

Thnax for the tip with the pads Nik.

soft is usually lighter as far as i know because it is more porous which makes it wear out faster (not as dense) ....a good example is a Conti Twister Pro and a Twister Supersonic .....same tire but the Supersonic gets it's lighter weight by a softer compound which is why it wears out faster than the Pro version ...keep in mind that not all of the weight savings is from the softer compound ...alot comes from probably thinner sidewalls.

Do people find the softer compound makes much difference in the dirt?
On the road it is noticeable, but I would have thought the tread patern was more important for off-road grip.

I have the Schwalbe Fast Fred Light 2.0 with the qualifier compound which is quite soft ...there isn't very much tread but I still like them and haven't had any problems with grip with them

They will wear out faster though ..definitely a race day tire only
