Hey guys.

Just finished building my lovely carbon KTM build but there is a problem.

When I got the wheelset new in the box there was play in these adapters in the front wheel, I figured with the wheel being new n all that this was normal but I did check the back wheel and it was solid, I figured it can't be wrong as the wheelset was new.

Anyway I have taken the bike out and there is a thud thud thud from the front end under braking, it's not a loose headset and I have taken the wheel off and there is still this play in the hub and I am wondering if this is normal or if this could be the culprit.

I made a video to show the problem here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6kFmLnydJ8

Can anyone identify if this is right or wrong and if wrong is this an easy fix? or should there be this kind of play.

I hope this is normal because all my cash is gone and this is a brand new wheelset.

Thanks in advance fellas.

I had the same thing with Novatec 771 front hub and it destroyed the end caps. I hope someone knows, what can be done there.

Attach your wheel to fork. That is the solution. Some hubs has loose end caps when not in fork.

Thanks guys, I have attached it to the fork and I can still feel some play when I press the brake on and move the bike it is a bit notchy in the brake area.

Caliper seems ok, can't feel anything in the headset, the only thing that has play is the hub caps.

Cheers for the advice so far :)

Hub looks fine - many like that.

Is the 'play' when your brake is on when you try to roll the bike forward and backward?

If it is, that's just the brake pads shifting in the caliper. Normal. You won't feel it when riding when you are only braking in one direction.

That's really great to know afalts, feel much better now :)

The play only happens under braking when on the bike, I am wondering if my axle may have come loose, I will test ride this morning and see if its any better.

Really appreciate all your help guys :)

May be use used wrong caps (D711SB and D771SB end caps are not compatible)

My hub is 15mm TA. Pretty sure there are no TA option for 711.

That's been spun in the hub, so something else went wrong for that to happen as the cap should bear on the inner race which shouldn't be rotating.

Those end caps have rotated. End caps can't rotate if the fork axle is tighten. This tell me you have an axle problem, or hands too weak to tighten the axle

And I confirm that 711SB end caps exist. There are multiple versions of this 711SB (different generations).

I think I now know, whats my problem is. I use FarNear bolt on axle. It was too long for this fork, so I let to cut it shorter and add threading. But the new threading is too short. The edge hits fork first and so not tightening it enough. Sry for my english :)
I added washer to the other side and will try tomorrow.
Thanks SportingGoods
