Rasterman wrote:So the XX have terrible reviews which is unfortunate considering they are so lightweight, Shimano is highly reviewed by much heavier, what brakes should I be looking at?
Guide Ultimate 230g
XX 180g
XTR Race 237g
Deore 277g
XTR M9000 front brake weights 190g uncut, what's with that 237g ...?
As above, XTR are not as heavy as you think. The latest are pretty light and are definitely my pick. I'd certainly avoid R1's. Hope are not thaaaat light and there's too much modulation at the expense of initial bite for my liking.
+1 xtr race m9000.
coming from mt6, they where to aggressive.

This will be a can of worms but have the people recommending formulas etc ever spent a decent amount of time on XTR/Ice tech combos to know what they are missing out on? Some things can't trump reliable and simple to set up components.

I have XTR M985 and XT M785 brakes. I prefer my R1s over both, and it has nothing to do with weight. They don't fade nearly as bad as my Shimano brakes, for whatever reason.

Thank you, it was the only picture of a brake on a scale that I could find, I think it was an older model is the problem. If the XTRs are that much lighter then I'll prolly go for them as I rode with the Deores yesterday for the first time and didn't like them at all, maybe they need to break in though
