Its just winter here now. We just had are first real snow in the mid west. I am thinking about a build project for the winter. I need some help/inspiration for picking a frame. I am looking at 26 or 27.5 wheels. It can be full suspension or hardtail. I started racing in 2006 and it is likely this bike will be raced. I think something from the era of when I started racing would be fun. However I am considering frame like a 2001 Schwinn Homegrown or a Felt Edict 2012. So really a big range. The last two season I have been racing a 9.3kg Ritchey P650b.

I should post my 9.97 kg Titus RacerX 100, full 2x10 drivetrain too :)
Might be able to drop 300g going to 1x10 ?

I love these Ritchey frames!!! If I ever get another mtb it will be definitely be one of these. Is it a nice ride? I always imagined it would be.
As for your new build, a Homegrown would be good or for ultimate old skool cool go for a Klein!!

It rides really well. Fairly stiff with a still a little bit of "spring". Downside is 2056g. I could find a carbon FS frame that weights less. Which is why I thought it may be a good complement.

Did they make the hardtail Kleins in disc?

Ah that's a point! Now I think about it, I'm not sure they did make a disc hardtail frame. Might be worth some investigation though.

Nothing much to add other than it's great to see another P-650b about, I took mine up a mountain at the weekend!

I'm still amazed that yours is 1kg lighter than mine even though we've got a reasonably similar build. How are you finding the single bolt saddle clamp? Mine keeps slipping even though I've torqued it fairly high (~12Nm) and used fibre grip pretty liberally as well.

No problems with the post slipping. I would make sure the clamp bolt is clean. If there to much dirt it can raise the torque without add enough clamping force.

Lots of little differences add up
XT vs WCS Pedals ~100g
XT vs 1080 Cassette ~100g
Loop vs F100 Terralogic ~100g
WCS vs Superlogic (changed after pic) ~88g
The carbon wheelset is sub 1300g
